greghar Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I can't run any webbrowser when uTorrent is running. And my whole Windows 7 64bit OS is 'not responding'.I use Vipre for security and firewall, but uTorrent is already an exception.what can be the problem and/or how to fix this?I have the exact same problem and also use Vipre Internet Security. If I catch it in time before the system locks up and close utorrent, I'll get back my wi-fi connection and be able to surf the Internet. But if I don't act fast enough, the system will lock and I'll be unable to open any applications and forced to manually power down the computer. If anyone has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated. I've been battling this for about 3 weeks now and do not know how to fix it. I've reformatted my hard-drive and reinstalled my operating system and still get the same problem. Before this post, I didn't know if something else may be on the fritz, but now it doesn't seem to be the case. I do a lot of torrent work and am a major uploader on the Web, so this downtime is killing me. Please HELP!!!My system info is as follows:OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home PremiumVersion 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601Other OS Description Not AvailableOS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationSystem Manufacturer AlienwareSystem Model M17xR3System Type x64-based PCProcessor Intel® Core i7-2720QM CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date Alienware A08, 7/29/2011SMBIOS Version 2.7Windows Directory C:\WindowsSystem Directory C:\Windows\system32Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume2Locale United StatesHardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.1.7601.17514"Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GBTotal Physical Memory 7.95 GBAvailable Physical Memory 5.61 GBTotal Virtual Memory 15.9 GBAvailable Virtual Memory 13.4 GBPage File Space 7.95 GBPage File C:\pagefile.sysMy Internet connection is 2MB down and 220 KBs up. DreadWingKnight Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Does the problem persist with vipre temporarily uninstalled?
greghar Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Does the problem persist with vipre temporarily uninstalled? After reinstall, those were the two first programs which I installed. Once it happened again, I turned off and closed the anti-virus program. So it's not running anywhere and still get the problem. But if you think it best, I will uninstall Vipre and try it that way.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Unfortunately, those applications don't actually stop their hooks until you uninstall them.
greghar Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Unfortunately, those applications don't actually stop their hooks until you uninstall them.Okay, that may have worked. After uninstalling Vipre, I have not had a problem with running uTorrent. Yeah, that's great - I think?! Kinda need both of these programs and I've been with Vipre for years. But when push comes to shove, uTorrent is a MUST HAVE for me. Either way, I'll continue to monitor this without the anti-virus installed thru the weekend and let you know if the problem surfaces or simply being a problem in a Vipre update that conflicts with uTorrent. Thank you so much for helping me. I'll definitely let you know how this goes and will post immediately if any more complications. Guess, I'll call Vipre tomorrow and see what they have to say. Hopefully they're already aware but who knows. If you wouldn't mind checking back in a few days, that would be great. If no problems arise by Sunday, I'll post as such and assume the problem is completely due to Vipre (which is most likely is).. Thanks again!!!
greghar Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 Okay, it's confirmed. The Vipre anti-virus is the problem. Called them and they said they're working on an update, but have no timeframe of when that will be. However, uTorrent is good to go! Thank you for all your help! Probably would never have figured this out on my own.
Weereennieuwe Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 I have to admit this also. I have completely removed Vipre Internet Security(which it is of now) and everything is running as smooth as before. I hope Vipre comes up with an update soon or it will be a no-go program for me.
ATBS Posted December 11, 2011 Report Posted December 11, 2011 I have the same problem except i use Norton 360 where Utorrent is already an exception. I have been fine using utorrent and browsing the net until a couple of days ago, where i deleted some photos and old programs nothing to do with utorrent or my browsers IE9 and google chrome.... now i cant browse while using utorrent Any advice?
hobbit Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 I switched to utorrent version 1.8 and turned off vipre firewall and web filtering in the settings. It's running like a madafaka now.
