xOAT Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I don't know what info is relevant so I will provide everything. Here's the situation:I'm downloading a single 23GB torrent composed of multiple files from 100MB to 7GB. Download speed is 6MBps. I have RAID 5 storage HDDs on my PC that benchmarks at 200MB read/write speeds. The problem is that I frequently get 100% disk overload. Even when the computer is at idle with no other downloads, the disk overload occurs. At that point the download slows to a crawl and exiting uTorrent does not work properly. The GUI closes but the process is still active. If I attempt to restart/shut own my PC, it stalls on shut down and I have to physically press the reset button. Upon PC restart, uTorrent preference settings are restored to its default. So how do I prevent the 100% disk overload and keep the settings from being restored back to the defaults?~xOAT
thebriang Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 What version of uTorrent do you have? This is a common issue with the latest version, just do a search for "Disk" and you can see that lotsa people are having this problem everyday, but many just got it when they "upgraded" to the latest "stable" version. I wish I could offer you advice, but I was having the same problem, 100% disk overload in no time flat and no one here was able to help me either. I fixed my issue, but I cant tell you what I did or they will ban me.So I wish you luck, I keep coming here everyday for weeks hoping for a real resolution, but I haven't found any answers yet, just blame-shifting.

I believe I temporarily fixed the issue as well.
Firon Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Open the Disk Cache settings, uncheck "write out untouched blocks every 2 minutes", uncheck "disable Windows caching of disk writes".Then go to Advanced and turn on diskio.sparse_files. This should alleviate your problems.
