Ollypomm Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Started having trouble with an older version. It was freezing and after I shut it down if I tried to re-start the programme it would say there was already a version running. Got fed up with persevering and downloaded the new version 3.1. Then I got a different problem. When I clicked on a torrent file to download in a torrent site the old icon popped up with a message that uTorrent was already running - even though I had the new version (new icon) programme running. Couldn't work out a fix for that. Eventually got so fed up I uninstalled everything uTorrent, lost all my torrents etc. did a clean up of my PC and downloaded the new version from a different site (in case there was something wrong with the first file). My new problem is this - my CPU will be running at 5%, I double click on the uTorrent icon and it IMMEDIATELY jumps to 80%+ then settles back to around 55% this is before any files has even kicked in to up or download yet! Trying to get into settings to sort things out is a nightmare with the constant 'go slows' and 'Not Responding' messages. I've never had a problem in the past. I haven't added anything new to my PC or changed any settings that would disrupt utorrent except updated zonealarm but I've made sure that everything utorrent is OK'd in it. Besides I don't think it's zonealarm that's the problem. Using XP Pro SP3Help please.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Besides I don't think it's zonealarm that's the problem. Uninstall it and find out. Also, both logs from http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=29748
Ollypomm Posted December 17, 2011 Author Report Posted December 17, 2011 Well, it turns out my latest problem IS Zonealarm - that stupid vsmon.exe file. Turned off ZA and my CPU dropped and my speeds in utorrent shot up. Gotta find a way to fix it though. Can't be unsecured in order to d/l.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 If you've got a router, you don't need a software firewall, as the router absorbs about 98% of the traffic the software firewall would protect you from. The 2% that would get through the router is either traffic you want or stuff that a software firewall couldn't stop anyway.
