ASIIFB
Hi everyone! I've just transferred my utorrent program files and appdata folders from my old XP PC to my new windows 7 laptop as I read this post "Installing utorrent on another PC,Windows 7 and keeping ratio" in General Forum and as intended all my torrents are listed with their correct upload amounts, ratios, completed on dates, etc. on my new computer, but there's one problem. All my torrents say Done 0.0% and Status "Error: Can't open .torrent file: [torrent directory from old XP computer]" this is because the appdata utorrent folder is from my XP comp, so it's the same directory as that. But, how do I change this so that it will read the downloaded files and torrent files from the folders they are in on my new computer but still keep the correct ratio, etc. info? I tried to change the directories in Options, Preferences, Directories and restarting uTorrent but this changed nothing.I read somewhere that I might have to use BEncode or something, which seems technical and I'm not that advanced with computers... Is there a simpler way? Please help. Thank you!
DreadWingKnight
The .torrent locations changes from windows xp to windows 7, so you MUST use the bencode editor to re-link the .torrent file information with uTorrent (while uTorrent is NOT running at all, not even in the tray) in order to remember the ratio locally.Otherwise, remove and re-add the .torrents. ASIIFB
I just watched a russian using BEncode on youtube and managed to get the gist of it.Success yay!So, here's what I done (for those who are like me and want to know how to do it.) was:- close and exit utorrent so the program is no longer running. I guess you should exit (and uninstall) it on the old computer aswell, as this is the copied folders from another computer. Unless you want to run it on both computers. I just exited utorrent on my old comp just in case it caused a problem. But I don't know if it would have or not, so ask someone else because I don't know.- Next, I used the '[v0.7.1.0] x64, Unicode' version of BEncode since i'm using windows 7 64 bit OS and downloaded that and just extracted to the same folder I downloaded it to and it worked.- Open BEncode from the folder it was extracted to, click 'File' then 'Open', open your resume.dat file which should be in (on windows 7) [drive letter]:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent. All your torrents should show up on the BEncode window with lots of information within the + sign next to each torrent but I'm drifting from the track here...- Next click 'Edit' then 'Replace' and the Replace window will come up.- Here we will replace the directories for the .torrent files and the downloaded files themselves, so that utorrent will read them from their new place on the new computer. (I replaced two directories; the directory for the .torrent files and the directory for the downloaded files separately, so this means I done one and then saved and closed BEncode then opened it again and done the same for the other directory. So for this first one pick which directory you want to change and then change the other directory the next time.) The 'Values:' text box is to type in the old directory, so type it there. This will replace this text in the resume.dat file to what ever you type in to the 'Replace:' text box.- So, then, in the 'Replace:' text box type the directory of the new folder that the files are now in on this new computer. - click the 'Replace All' button (which will make it the same for all torrents) then click close and make sure to save before closing the BEncode Editor.- Then open BEncode again to change the other directory same way as the first one. Remember to save before closing.- Open utorrent.- Highlight all torrents, right click and click 'Force Re-Check'.- It should update the "Done" percentages to their correctness.- Then, highlight then all again, right click and click 'Start' and they should go as they did on the previous computer with the same ratios and that but instead the completed on date will be todays date thats because of the re-check we done.Sorry it's so long. Good luck.
HanDuet
I just made this account to deliver the following message:---Dear ASIIFB,You're awesome. You started this thread with practically no knowledge on how to fix your problem. You were told what tool to use, but you didn't know how to use it. You took the initiative and researched a solution, successfully managing to solve your problem. But you didn't stop there! Next, you did something incredible: You shared your solution with the community. Most users would have been satisfied when the problem was fixed for them. But you actually took the time to explain, step-by-step, how you solved your problem so that others could find and use the solution you found. The Internet approves of your actions.---
