sunbum22
I received an email from my ISP today threatening to cancel my high speed internet service because of (9) DCMA notices. As a new uTorrent user I was not aware big brother was watching me. How do I prevent this in the future??
coo4632
Stop downloading illegal content. If you are privacy conscious though and just want privacay, there are numerous methods.proxy, ip masking, vpn, anonymous referrer, peerblock, seedbox.VPN being your most secure and peerblock least. If you want to avoid having your service cut, you may want to change some of your habits.Btw, someone is always watching
Mac-the-Knife
I would personally save them the bother and change to another ISP, there are plenty out there that are via for your business. There are plenty of torrents, including movies, that you can legally download, so the only way you can really be caught is if you download from an untrustworthy source. You should remember that, those that want to catch people downloading illegally, will post files themselves to catch these people, if you download from a source like that then they can obviously catch you. It's better to download from reliable and trustworthy sources and many of these have a special icon on torrent sites. I always have encryption enabled on uTorrent and never ever download from anyone that hasn't got a trusted or vip logo. Been doing this now for 10yrs and never had a problem or a warning from anyone. If you're in the UK then Talk Talk are excellent, far better than BT who I believe kept cutting my speeds.

coo4632
They don't post bait files. If they seeded their own file, movie or whatever, then you could download that legally in which case no law is broken. What they do do is if you have or are downloading a file and they can download it from you, then they have proof you are sharing their copy written material. It doesn't matter who the source was or how trustworthy, because you are now a source. It's fine if you want to change ISP, but that probably won't solve your problem as chances are that ISPs legally have to warn you and you will have the same problem at the new ISP. Be warned that eventually a lawyer may come a knockin'It is much safer to dl from private trackers requiring membership, but does not make you completely safe either because if you can get a membership, they can too.Encryption may or may not help. People who have encryption enabled get warnings too.Encryption is good if your ISP uses Deep Packet Inspection to limit file sharing. If not, it is probably not worth it. I have mine disabled as I use qos and it interferes with that. If you are looking for a new ISP, some things to keep in mind, some ISPs protect your privacy better than others. Some even have an anonymous proxy. It is also better to have one that does not use DPI..Educate yourself, know your needs and your options. karmahut
Look into using a proxy. uTorrent does a good job of of working with proxies. I prefer to set my own up via a VPS.Good luck to you. I think the take your internet away after 10 for a year.
