John Peterson Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I've had several suggestions moved to thrash without a link to the existing suggestion.A bugtracker gives a reference to the duplicate issue and I suggest you do that too. Thanks!
schnurlos Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 The search function can help you if somebody says that's a doublepost.
John Peterson Posted January 4, 2012 Author Report Posted January 4, 2012 The problem is that it's sometimes not obvious what the duplicate is, and a bugtracker normally has a search function too but it still gives a reference to the duplicate issue. For example my suggestion "Please open a bugtracker for uTorrent!" http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=111380 is considered to be a duplicate of "bug tracking system post" http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=5453 in the Chat forum.Since the duplicate is in the Chat forum I kindly ask that my suggestion is undeleted (moved back from Trash to Feature Requests), only duplicates in the Feature Requests forum should normally be considered so that it's obvious that it's a suggested feature.
schnurlos Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 So ... you think a user which doesn't use the searchfunction before posting in a forum will use the searchfunction of a bugtracker?
John Peterson Posted January 4, 2012 Author Report Posted January 4, 2012 So ... you think a user which doesn't use the searchfunction before posting in a forum will use the searchfunction of a bugtracker? I didn't consider that. What I considered is that some systems, for example some bugtrackers, both have a search function and give references for duplicate issue, as a counter argument to the argument that a search function means no reference to the existing topic needs to be given. Thanks!
