amber89
uTorrent 3.1.0.26650; Vista x64 hm prem, SP2. Running uT in a limited user acct.Duplicate Torrent files (not full download files) are created in Vista in C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp -just in the temp root folder. The same torrents are also created & stored in the folders entered in Preferences>Directories. These temp files never seem to get deleted after closing uT, even when all torrents have been removed from uT interface. There's no reason to create the duplicate temp files in C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp, at all, as the torrent files are already being stored in the defined directory (folder) designated in uTorrent prefs.Reproducible steps:The KEY to the temp files being created in C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp - is when click on "Download (this Torrent)" on a site, and THEN choose, "Open with" - vs. "Download...".If uTorrent is default torrent client (as is for me), then once click open w/ uTorrent, it starts automatically d/l the torrent. After torrent file download completes, a small pop up at lower R of screen says "download complete."This method is when temp files are immediately created - apparently BY uTorrent, AND it saves the same torrent files in the default folder specified in uT prefs. Most of these temp files are from full torrent downloads (no files skipped in torrent).NO OTHER method of SAVING the torrents (vs "Open With uTorrent) using "Save As," "Save File," "Save Link As," or using DownThemAll, creates a temp file in folder mentioned, using latest Firefox 9.0.1.Seems like unnecessary duplication & wasting HDD space. The temp files & torrent files stored in uT defined directory are identical - identical size. It could be a privacy issue for some, as the temp files are automatically stored on C: drive, which then gets stored in Volume Shadow Copies, if turned on. DreadWingKnight
Those ones are your browser's copies, not uTorrent's copies.
amber89
It would be helpful to all if you could explain when using uT, how to get around temp files being created & still have uT automatically open the "begin download" popup?Without becoming a huge pain, is there a way to choose SAVE .torrent files (instead of "Open With" uTorrent), and still have uT automatically open the "begin download" uT screen or just start d/l it immediately (users' choice), w/o having to click "Add Torrent" in uT GUI & manually select torrents you want to begin d/l?I checked the "Open With" process w/ other apps & they do create temp files in C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp. SOME apps del the temp files, once the file and/ or app is closed. I assume you've investigated that it's the browser & not Widows creating the temp files. If one SAVES a file (with most apps I tested), including .torrent files, no temp files are created.Thanks.
