MisterD Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 When adding a torrent the "normal" way through a torrent file, the save-location for the content data is checked for already existing files. These files are scanned and this way it is possible, to add a torrent which then starts not at 0% because some of the files are already there.i haven't tried it this way, but i assume this works to reproduce it:1) start downloading a torrent, stop at 50% and delete it from the application.(1.5) now, how it works via adding through .torrent files: Re-Add the and save it to the same location, the locations contents are scanned (as in automatic "Force Re-check" from the context menu) and downloading resumes at 50%.2) how it does not work when using a magnet link: Re-Add the torrent by using a magnet link and save it to the same location uTorrent will then first retrieve the .torrent information from other peers, and then immediately start downloading without checking for already present data, meaning your torrent starts again at 0%The way i usually encounter this file is by attempting to download single a large file (a .iso image for instance) via HTTP until my internet connection cuts out and the http download gets canceled. Instead of re-downloading the file via http (in cases where resuming is not supported), i often look for a torrent of the exact same file. I usually download the .torrent file and simply save the content file at the same location as the previous HTTP download. utorrent then finds and scans the integrity of the partially downloaded file and simply downloads the missing rest. However, when using a magnet link instead, this doesn't work because the file is not automatically scanned after the torrent information has been downloaded. It is possible to work around this issue by waiting after adding the magnet link until it becomes apparent, that the .torrent information has been received and actual content download starts, then stopping the torrent, manually forcing a re-check (which finds the already existing files, at least if you do it quickly before utorrent overwrites anything), and then resuming the torrent for only the missing bits just as when adding through .torrent files.
elecyb Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Hello friend, I was investigating the same issue and I can tell you that when you remove the download from the list before it has finished, and then re-add via a magent link, the client restarts the download, BUT if then delete, and re-add using the .torrent, the files are checked and what I'm trying to say is that the files are not corrupted, they are all healthy, and the download returns to the first state. It's strange this behavior because the torrent is made to be fully efficient.
elecyb Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Would be nice to have a p2p distribution system with updated content. With torrent this can be done removing the old and add a new one with the same name, the files are checked and then It downloads only the outdated files. However, this method lacks the ability to remove obsolete files. When a peer removes the torrent can put in the comments the link to the newer content so other people can be noticed about changes. However aparently this don't works with magnet link. :| As explained in the post above.
Firon Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Hmm. This is a genuine bug. I'll add it to the list of things we need to fix.
rafi Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 There is an additional issue involved here: this magnet torrent is being added to the completed category instead of downloading http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=112342You might want to add it to the same todo list... It is #53 on mine...
xm Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Hmm. This is a genuine bug. I'll add it to the list of things we need to fix.Glad to hear it. I can see the file list quite happily if I add the magnet link and start it, and then restart uTorrent, but it's a pain if something else is currently downloading. A feature for getting the torrent information from the Magnet link would be useful, if possible.
