Disk overloaded at 4MB/sec

Hello,

I have uTorrent configured to save torrents to a drive that can do about 50MB/sec of transfer speed. Whenever I start downloading a large torrent, however, it pre-allocates the file at only 4MB/sec (per Resource Monitor), and says the disk is 100% overloaded. The disk has plenty of free space so the write should be sequential. I'm looking for tips on how to speed it up.
