How do i Install the latest version w/o uninstalling a previous one?

Hi there

Currently I’m using a laptop (its not mine) where I found “installed” an old version of utorrent (1.8.4). I’d like to install the newest version (its more safe) without uninstalling/compromising the previous one. I don’t need to run both at the same time, I just want to use the 3.12 w/o screwing up/overwriting the old configuration files, otherwise I’ll upset my friend.

So…where are the conf. files (I’ll do a back up just to be sure <.<) and what do I need to do?

EDIT: I googled around a bit more and found out about “self-contained utorrent”:

I have to “copy the entire contents of %AppData%\uTorrent into the same folder as utorrent.exe”, am I right?

Then what? Should I…

1. delete the old “%AppData%\uTorrent” folder…

2 start the 1.8.4 .exe in order to verify that it works…

3 install the new version?

Any feedback?<.<

I mean, answers like "Yes, you are right, because..." or "Nope, that would be the wrong thing to do, because..."

Am i asking for too much?<.<

Just replacing the utorrent.exe should be enough.

Backup of you old exe and all files in the “%AppData%\uTorrent” folder is always a good idea.

@ schnurlos: First, ty for your answer…but I’m afraid u misunderstood. I cannot replace the exe, I have to leave it be, so I am forced to start the 3.12 version from another path.

That being said, how can I prevent the new utorrent from overwriting the old settings?

I mean, I’m trying to store on the same pc two different versions of utorrent, and the old one must keep working as before. I have no need of 2 exe running at the same time, but each one must have a config. folder.

So just copy the folder (from 1.8.5) to a new one, replace the exe file and start utorrent there.

All the settings are searched near the utorrent.exe, if they are not there utorrent is looking in the “%AppData%\uTorrent” folder.
