Speeds Start out Normal, lower to 9.5kb/s

My normal speeds are just under 1mb/s for downloading, recently in the past two days my speeds are normal for around 30 seconds then they slip down to 9.5kb/s or lower. I haven't changed anything but my version recently and I've reinstalled twice. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Howdy,

I have the same problem as the OP. Two or three days ago I added a torrent which downloaded the file at my usual 5-600kB/s. Today my download rate goes from ~600 kB/s to ~9.5kB/s after about a minute from starting utorrent and a torrent. Any torrents I add while utorrent is still open, however, only ever get up to ~9.5kB/s and stay there. I uninstalled/reinstalled the latest free version the utorrent main page and nothing changed. I went through the help threads and the only thing that was suggested that was different was un/rechecking firewall exceptions and the Protocol Encryption, which was disabled and I enabled it and ticked the box for legacy connections. Restarted program/pc and no change.

My network status is green.

My setup guide shows my upload at 2.4Mb/s and download at 5.6Mb/s.

My upload limit is 235kB/s, 8 upload slots, 100 conn's/torrent, 500 global, 7 active torrents, 6 active downloads.

Network port is open and properly configured. Port 64169.

net.max.halfopen is at 100 and I've never modified anything.

I'm using Shaw cable internet, no router, modem is SB 5100, which is very very old but still works fine and has caused me zero problems since I bought it.

My pc is a toshiba satellite, intel core2 duo T5450 1.66Ghz, 2GB RAM.

Yup here we go again.... seems to be a distinct pattern, read and weep,

Your not alone, there are dozens of threads which discuss this issue in this forum and others (Google, flushing to disk or disk overloaded 100%) and as of today not one correct answer, maybe a few insults like "you just don't know what your doing" ..... no answers, believe me I've tried em all on the last 10 builds. If you have a slower dsl or sat connection @ 512mb/s down it may work fine... but on a cable modem... Forget about it.

This isn't a fix, CAUSE THERE ARE NONE .... but next time this happens , go to "speed" tab, switch to the "disk statistics view" and note the the bottom cache allotment bar (write)... if it's solid green, which I'm sure it is, your torrent "pieces" are stuck in perpetuity in utorrent cache hell. Leaving it running in this state might make you look for a weapon of some sort.... the best thing to do is stop all torrents and wait to see if the cache flushes to disk files, sometimes it does in in a few minutes more often though you will stare at that green bar until you may want to hurt yourself, your computer, or god forbid people around you.

You can take the advice of the "experts" and raise the cache settings to "pick a number any number" this does nothing to release the torrent pieces to file, it simply grows into a larger green monster. And sure you can chase the "enable this" or "disable that" all day to get that perfect combination... you can forget it, they are all bandages for a once great program which has turned into a useless piece of junk.

BTW Hallow, your original speed is probably 1MB/s or 1000 kB/s... if it were 1mb/s that would be only 125 kB/s .... bits and bytes factors of 8 or 10 just to make you more confused... upper case (second letter) is always "bytes" ie. MB or kB/KB ..... lower case (second letter) is always "bits" ie. Mb/mb or Kb/kb. Most clients use "bytes". Speed test.net default uses Mb/mb/s ..... you can change it though in settings.

Anyway good luck... and be patient I'm sure the "FIX" is on it's way :D

Yes I have the same problem over the past 2-3 weeks the download speed has been between 20-30kb/s when its normally 750kb/s. I though it was because of glitches in the newer versions but I installed 9 versions back and the speed is exactly the same.

I sure hope there is a solution for this?
