Magnet downloads....

Question, do I need to alter or retweak my settings now the the traditional "download" link is gone and it is now the magnet link?

My downloads seem to be deathly slow compared to the usual download speeds I was getting with the traditional download!?

Does it add up?

If you're using uTorrent, then no, you don't need to configure or change anything to get Magnet URIs to work.

The thing with Magnets is that you'll have fairly slow downloads at first, because your torrent client will have to search for the data you're looking for using the metadata described by the Magnet URI.

Once your torrent client knows what it's looking for and where to find it, it should download just like any other torrent should. Depending on the torrent, this should happen after a few seconds to several minutes (assuming the torrent isn't dead already).

Hello,

the same problem is happening to me. When I use a magnet link the download is always really slow. As piratebay now only has magnet links this is becoming a real problem. When using a torrent file the download speed is fast.

Is there any configuration I could look into to fix this? Any place to look for a hint about what is happening?

As I said, it's normal for Magnets to be slow at first.

In order to download your files, you need information described in the .torrent file.

A Magnet URI on the other hand only has a description of what your data is supposed to be.

Your torrent client will use that description to find more information about the data and eventually create its very own .torrent file.

In the end, both Magnet URIs and .torrent are the same, except for the very beginning, where a Magnet URI has to generate the .torrent first.

So, to answer your question:

The option you're looking for does not exist.

Hi, thanks for the answer. The problem is that even after many hours the downloads continue to be slow.

For example, I have a 16GB download running for the last 24 hours, with 200+ seeders (I'm connected to 20+) and 1500+ peers (I'm connected to 45+) and the download is at most 20KB/sec.
