Balkaneer Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I have just lost all of my torrent data and all my settings. I had 100+ torrents uploading and dormant.. Is the data recoverable? I am using 3.1.2 and have installed all updates.
Prequel Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Same thing here. You just ruined my whole day. Unbelieveable. Such things happens in the year 2012. Jus- just unbelieveable...
DocsGal Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I did the same exact thing yesterday! I was trying to delete a label(I don't like the new labeling set-up btw) and when I went to delete the label it deleted not only the label, it deleted EVERY label, torrent and stat in my directory. I am having to re-build everything one at a time unless someone can tell me another way to do it. There IS no other way as far as I know, other than selecting your original torrent file, re-starting it in uTorrent without actually STARTING it, and doing a FORCE RE-CHECK of your FILES by setting the download location to the folder that you already have your data stored in. At least all my data is still there. Just think-it COULD be worse..you could have lost all of your data! Do a back-up and chalk it up to a technical learning experience. I started copying my stats into an Excel document on the first of every month last year so I could keep better track of my stats just in case something like this ever happened. Good luck and if anyone knows a better way..let us know!!Docs Gal
Firon Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 sounds to me like you deleted all the torrents, mistaking the delete option for remove labels.
Prequel Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 IT HAPPENED AGAIN!I LOST COUNT HOW MANY TIMES I LOST MY DATA!I did a virus scan and checkdisk on all my harddrives nothing wrong. There's no freezing or anything while on load, e.g. gaming... It just freezes totally randomly when there's no load at all.All i did this time was press ctrl+alt+del, (without ending NO process) put my computer to lock, then 2 seconds later i remembered something and unlocked, then i right-clicked somwhere and it froze! i had to hard-reset. and voila. ANOTHER CLEAN LIST! I renamed .bad files, it didn't read. No surprise there. There weren't .old files, dunno why. Also i didn't lose my settings this time. Luckily i managed to get 20 torrents from my older personal backup, my list's last status was 50. I'm glad i didn't try to add my whole ~150 lost torrents before. if i were, i'd just stab myself instead living with such a pain. Current pain is already unbearable. What can i do to prevent this from happening again besides backuping my resume file? E.g. i removed ~1500 unused .torrent files from my temp folder, thought it might help. And removed .old & .bad files. And updated to 3.1.3, from 3.1.2. Any other piece of suggestions would be appreciated.
brnblnk Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Anyone? This is still happening to the point where I'm telling people to avoid using this once beloved program. Im rebuilding my client AGAIN and paying close attention to the data files since i know this will happen again. I've tried to rename the dat files as suggested above but that did nothing! THere is something going on since this seems to happen randomly at night when the pc is left on with no utility programs running.Ive had it happen with 2.2.1 and the new 3.1 versions of utorrent.Others have this issue too and there is still NO SOLUTION.http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1025677PLEASE HELP BEFORE THE UTORRENT SMEAR CAMPAIGN STARTS!
brnblnk Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 It happened again. I can say that backing up the resume.DAT file DOES WORK! I got all my torrents back with all of their respective labels and bandwidth allocations. So that was a plus, but still. utorrent is not something I will recommend.
brnblnk Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 It happened again! Look at the date of my posts, this is getting way bad. When I came to my client this morning, the torrents were missing and the settings, unlike before, were changed. it would appear as though the program tried to update itself, but I DO NOT HAVE AUTO UPDATE TURNED ON SINCE NEW VERSIONS SUCK. Users beware.
DreadWingKnight Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 If your system isn't letting uTorrent write the resume file for whatever reason, that is NOT uTorrent's fault.
d1davey Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 UT needs to implement a backup feature for the DAT files so they can be be reintegrated when theirs a crash and it doesn't have a chance to write the files properly better to lose a few the all of the data. Ut just flacked out again and i've lost over 3700 files and its going to take the better part of a week to fix it Wake up UT :/
