Kavinu Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 This problem first occured with µTorrent beta (3.2 build 26883). When I start up the application, a couple of seconds later, my computer restarts with the BSOD. I figured it was the beta version so I downgraded to µTorrent Stable (3.1.3 build 26837) and the problem still occured. These are the specs for the Windows BSOD:Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 19 BCP1: 0020 BCP2: BBE407D8 BCP3: BBE40BE0 BCP4: 0A810807 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\032112-18860-01.dmp C:\Users\Kevin\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-59904-0.sysdata.xml Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txtThen, I tried several steps using these suggestions:http://www.sevenforums.com/software/2980-utorrent-bsod.htmlhttp://forums.techarena.in/technology-internet/1298793.htmBut none seemed to work. So now, I'm stuck. I'm running Windows 7, 32-bit. If you need anymore information, just ask.
Firon Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Use bluescreenview to see what driver crashed. Some driver on your system is buggy.

Firon Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 It's Avast that is crashing. So, find an update to Avast, or uninstall it.Or you can see if disabling it's useless firewall-like features helps.
Kavinu Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 It's Avast that is crashing. So, find an update to Avast, or uninstall it.Or you can see if disabling it's useless firewall-like features helps.I uninstalled Avast and the problem is no longer occurring. However, I do not know if I should try to reinstall it to find out if it will continue once again or simply use another AV. Suggestions?
Firon Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I'd just recommend not bothering with Avast. If you really need an antivirus, try Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and largely problem-free.

If you really need an antivirus, try Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and largely problem-free.What do you use? Because I'm the person that manages everything on my family computer but my mom, sister, etc. may not know how to use a new one since they are not very computer savvy. Something safe but that doesn't get in the way of daily tasks.
Firon Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I use nothing. But I do recommend MSE, since it doesn't suck and is free. I don't know of MSE crashing people's machines.
Mac-the-Knife Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Just for the record, I use Avast free antivirus and Comodo Firewall, both up to date and they don't conflict at all with the latest non beta version of uTorrent.
roboatse Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Hi there, I'm having a similar BSOD problem but I don't use Avast. I use AVG and run Malwarebytes regularly. google seems to think that hal.dll is important but i'm not familiar with it. Any help would be much appreciated.
