Aidity
Now don't get me wrong here; I have looked over a large amount of posts pertaining to my problem, but to no avail, I haven't found anything.Basic computer specs:-OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1-Computer type: Acer Aspire 7739Z (Laptop)-uTorrent Version: 3.1.2After finishing a torrent download, I started another but it wouldn't start. I tried restarting and re-checking the torrent a couple times until i got a little frustrated, and eventually started to look at some more "advanced" properties. That is, until I stumbled upon this: Not just one but ALL the trackers (with the exception of the top three of course) have the error message "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions."At first, I figured there was something wrong with the individual torrent, so I started another, and the same thing happened. I was blindly following help the others received until I went into the apps section, and saw this: After that, I determined that this is a client related issue...So, I've got nothing. Help please? DreadWingKnight
Try deleting settings.dat and settings.dat.old from %appdata%\utorrent (with uTorrent closed completely, not minimized) and see if that helps. There may be a setting conflict.
Aidity
Alright.Hijackthis also said something about my system denying write access to the Hosts file.C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hostsNot sure if that has anything to do with this?
Aidity
Yes, that partially worked, but there's still a few trackers acting the same way they previously did:"http://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announce" < Still giving the error messageand these three are timing out:"udp://tracker.istole.it:80/announce""udp://tracker.openbittorent.com:80/announce""udp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announce"
Beasly
I'm no expert but by the looks at your Hijackthis log you have many references to missing files...Also i noticed you have GreedyTorrent installed. So maybe a port conflict.Make sure utorrent and greedytorrent are not using the same ports. Also I noticed Whitesmoketoolbar.....If you know you didn't install that you should remove it...Searching the web on info for it many claim that it redirects your searches and not adviseable to be on your system! Aidity
I'm not too sure about those files. Windows has been running no different since the time I got this laptop. Also, I made sure that uTorrent and GreedyTorrent are using different ports. To be honest, I don't even know what GreedyTorrent does, I just downloaded it because someone claimed that it improves speed, because my internet speeds are so slow, my max download speed is 160kB/s. Beasly
Thunderbolts and Lightening....very, very frightening!!!Snakeoil...You should really do a FULL system virus/malware scan and a SFV file scan just to make sure!Just because you're system feels right doesn't always mean nothing has crept in behind your back!GreedyTorrent may be doing more harm than good...Have you tried disabling greedytorrent and see if socket issues persists? Aidity
Yes, I'll get on that scan.Yep, I've tried disabling GreedyTorrent, doesn't make a difference.
Beasly
Have you noticed any error messages in the event viewer that resembles your socket error...winsock, etc..You can also check to make sure your firewall settings are correctly configured for Utorrent traffic..or just temporarily disable it and try.
Aidity
I've tried that, I even manually made firewall exceptions for the incoming and outgoing traffic.By the way, I like your profile pic. I used to listen to the Gorillaz all the time.
Beasly
You can try this....http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=20037and check here for Utorrent specific port...http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/the results should be open port
Aidity
Grr... Thanks for the effort, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Aidity
Wait, I think I've got something... On the site that you recommended, it says that port # 80 is closed for my external IP adress, also, it appears that all trackers that have the prefix "http://" give the error "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions". Whilst the other trackers with the prefix "udp://" are either working fine or have timed out.
Aidity
Hmm, the port that uTorrent is currently using is open, but port 80 (http port) is not.
Beasly
I don't suggest using port 80...try any port between 40000- 50000 but you need to forward the port in your router and you need to tell utorrent to use that specific port!
Aidity
I don't use port 80, I was just referring to the port that some trackers use, and I was wondering if it meant anything that those ports were closed. And I just forwarded the port that my uTorrent uses, but it didn't do anything.
