DreadWingKnight Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 We don't provide support for any old versions. That site is no longer worth using.
bagheera Posted March 30, 2012 Author Report Posted March 30, 2012 I was asking for support for the newest versions.I would like to set their minds at ease about it.as for the site "no longer worth using", I disagree.
DreadWingKnight Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 If they're going to unilaterally ban a client without even pretending to try to get the issues fixed, they aren't worth using.Additionally, their recommending of the specific versions they have makes them WORSE than not recommended, as the versions they are recommending have confirmed security holes.
ktetch Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 I come across this sort of thing all the time, bagheera. There's no barrier to set up a site like this. no knowledge needed. As a result, you get people who don't have a clue about bittorrent running these trackers. Mostly to make money. They get most of their information on things like this from forums, where the requirement is, again, no knowledge of buttorrent. Then it acts as an echochamber where false information gets repeated. And because they're 'admins' it's treated like they're experts. I once wrote the definitive text on clients, DHT leaks and spoofing back in 05. 5 years later, I had private tracker admins repeating the same claims I'd debunked 5 years earlier, down to the same versions. They were even claiming some clients leaked via DHT that didn't have DHT. People went and believed the admins, because... they were the ADMINS. Me, I'm just the guy that has been investigating these kinds of claims for 7-8 years. That means nothing against a guy that's been renting a server for a year and installed a pre-packaged site. The reason DWKnight said leave the site is this. If they're getting BASIC stuff like this wrong, what else are they getting wrong? How much more are they screwing up? And what do you think they're going to do when something goes wrong, or some industry group starts putting pressure on them? They clearly don't want to bother fact checking, or asking someone, because they think they know best. You really want to be associated with, and liable because of people like that?
bagheera Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 Today, I got this message...Utorrent 3.0 and up is no longer banned here sorry about all of this.....please enjoy the site.... I wish I could take credit for the unbanning, but as soon as I asked about the ban, I was shot down in flames. Others apparently were able to convince the site owner that things are OK over here in uTorrent land.
