Good afternoon,

I have been using utorrent for a few years now and I love it. However since saturday night I am unable to get the program to open.

I am running windows 7 and it usually starts with windows however its not opening up the normal window but tune up process manager says its running. I cant click the icon and open it up nothing happens however the process manager says its using 900meg of ram (ten times that of any other program).

I can end the process from the task manager however when i open it back up it doesnt appear on screen however it again appears in the task manager to be eating up memory.

I cant uninstall it, however when i download the latest version and run the install file, nothing happens.....other than.... the computer slows down and once again it appears in the process manager to be eating my memory up

I have tried running the following to see if there are probelms:

1 ad aware scnner

2 anti malware scanner

3 microsoft security essentials.

All have run and found a number of things and cleaned them out, but nothing will affect the status of utorrent.

I have also run the tuneup stuff to clean the registry etc etc.

All to no avail..

I have deleted the utorrent directory and tried to install again and still it just opens the install and nothing appears except the computer slows down and utorrent appears in the process manager as eating memory up.

Is anyone able to offer any advice please? im really stuck and its so annoying :(

thank you very much,

Alex Slater

I came here with the same problem.

But then... I fixed it!

Try to close the uTorrent from the task admin and go to %appdata% folder (just write %appdata% in the windows address bar), then uTorrent.

You will see a list of all the torrents you have active and a few *.dat files. Just delete "settings.dat" and "settings.dat.old" files.

Now open uTorrent and it should work.

Tell me if it works for you ;)
