UPnP Bug with Media Server

Hi,

I use Rivet to stream media from Mac to Xbox 360. I noticed that it hasn't been working for the past few days so I tried a few similar programs and nothing seemed to work. I spent a while trying to work out what the problem is (disabling running applications, etc.) and when I disabled uTorrent (1.6.4), Rivet suddenly started to work again.

I closed both apps and am able to replicate the bug by opening uTorrent, then opening Rivet. As far as I can tell, Rivet uses UPnP on port 1900, and something in this new version of uTorrent is blocking it from doing so. If I disable UPnP mapping in uTorrent preferences, then the problem also disappears so it's something to do with that.

Can you tell me what has changed in the new version that would be blocking other applications from using UPnP? In the meantime, my resolution is to start Rivet and then start uTorrent and all seems to work OK. It's not a big issue...just slightly annoying that I had to spend a lot of time working out the problem (and blaming everything else, lol!)

Apparently this bug is causing issues with Flex Media Server too. A few more details here...

THANK YOU for this, been looking all over and could not find a decent answer as to why uTorrent is using the DLNA port and stopping Plex DLNA Server from running, when it doesn't have a DLNA server. Now I will disable UPnp and see how that goes.

Although according to the post, uTorrent, "With udp port 1900, apps should be using SO_REUSEADDR and such (as appropriate per platform) in order to coexist over SSDP peacefully." so here is hoping uTorrent fixes that.

No problem! :) I was in the same boat for ages trying to find out what was actually causing the problem before I realised it uTorrent. I'm happy enough with my workaround for now but it would be nice if it could be fixed in the next version!
