BuzzLizard
Can someone tell me if I'm on the right path here.I'm running Windows 7. I have (or had) my uTorrent files on two different hard drives, like this:My C: drive contained my uTorrent AppData folder. My F: drive contains 3 folders related to uTorrent:1. "BT - uTorrent in progress" - where files go while they're downloading2. "BT - completed" - where files go when they're done downloading.(This folder is divided into subfolders that match the labels I used in uTorrent -- "Books," "MP3s," "Trailers," etc.)3. "torrent files" - contains all the .torrent filesMy C: drive died, but I have a backup of the entire uTorrent AppData folder. (resume.dat, etc.) After I installed a replacement hard drive, my F: drive ended up renamed to E: but I still have all those other folders.I'm hoping I can reinstall uTorrent and continue to seed the many files I was seeding before. In one thread, people were pointing to a guide called "Migrating Your Files":http://www.utorrent.com/help/guides/migrateHowever, the Migrating Your Files guide seems to be about migrating to uTorrent from another client. It also includes a few phrases that I can't understand from context. (I can give examples, if anyone needs.)I'm hoping someone can tell me:Q: Is the Migrating Your Files guide the one I need to follow?Q: Are there extra steps I need to take because my F: drive turned into my E: drive?Q: Does the guide assume that I have installed uTorrent already, and set a bunch of settings (Port number, number of active downloads, etc.)? I'd much prefer to load the settings from my previous uTorrent install, if possible.Q: Since I'm actually "migrating" from uTorrent to uTorrent, is there an easier way to do this? (Especially if it means I don't have to relearn all the Preferences that I set a year ago and then forgot)Thanks in advance for any help.Buzz
jbebad
Assuming you kept your directorys and drive letters, (change your F: back to E:), copied back your appdata (where your settings and resume.dat are located), you should be able to start uTorrent without any other changes necessary. (And of course you did not lose torrents or data.)
BuzzLizard
Assuming you kept your directorys and drive letters, (change your F: back to E:), copied back your appdata (where your settings and resume.dat are located), you should be able to start uTorrent without any other changes necessary. (And of course you did not lose torrents or data.)I did just rename my new E: drive back to F:, so that part is done.Just to double-check:I now just have to install uTorrent on my new C: drive. I'll run it once, then quit, and then copy over all of the AppData, .torrent and other files into the appropriate locations? Does that sound right? Thanks. jbebad
If your system looks exactly the same (from a uTorrent perspective) as it did prior to the crash of your system drive, then if it worked before, it will work now. (Lots of "ifs" I know. But only you know if it is setup like it was before.) Try it. What have you got to lose? I hope when you "move" files you do understand to Copy them. You can delete the old stuff once you have tested everything out.
squowse
I would advise disabling "append !ut to incomplete files" option as I now have zillions of these that it decided were incomplete during a changeover, but were actually fine. Having to work my way through these one torrent at a time.
