I clicked yes for updating utorrent and after that it kept showing messages warning me not to open files from strangers. There is no option to check to not to warn me again. opened reference and there is no option to stop this brilliant that I've never thought about message.

utorrent is in the trash bin now, untill I find solution to this annoying message. unless there is an option to disable this I didn't see!

Thank you for help

Are you using uT through a proxy?

You said it's in the trash, but people are less likely to be able to help you if it's not installed.

What was the exact message?

You could just not use it vs trashing it, until you get some resolution.

Hi amber89,

No i'm not using proxy. the message appear whenever I open a file through uTorrent, like pdf files for example.

the message reads: "Opening unknown files from strangers can be dangerous. The file can contain viruses and other things that can harm your computer"

I didn't uninstall yet, but i'm about to, because this message can not be disabled, I think. No option in the references.

Not sure I understand why you're "opening" files like PDF through uT?

You're trying to open files through uT that are already downloaded, by R clicking the file name in uT's main screen?

That warning message says " ...contains files that MAY harm your computer.

Upgrade to uTorrent Plus to protect yourself..."

Key word is "may," not will. It's an advertisement to upgrade to uTorrent Plus. If you want to upgrade, fine.

If not, ignore the warning, or open the files in their d/l location w/ appropriate app. Have you AV prgm set to scan all new / changed files & ALL files upon opening / execution, & you should be fine.

If you have a decent virus scanner that scans each file that's opened (or can also manually scan them 1st, in the d/l folder), you should be OK. ANY file d/l on the internet can POTENTIALLY contain something harmful

The exact main alert message (in blue) is:

Opening unknown files from strangers can be dangerous. The file can contain viruses and other things that can harm your computer.

Then in smaller font and black: Do you really want to open [drive]:\..\[filename].[ext]?

Note there's nothing about upgrading to any other version. And I did just upgrade! Yes, to a more recent free version, but an upgrade never-the-less.

The message appears in the when clicking on an item in the Files tab (content of torrent).

It really is two more steps to right-click the file entry, click: "open containing folder" and 2-click the entry there. Rather than a single double-click directly on the entry in under the Files tab.

It appears there is no obvious option for disabling this warning in the main preferences. Did I miss it? Is there an easter egg somewhere, or perhaps an entry in a .INI?

I like the product alot -- but this issue gives one pause.

Thanks to any who know and share.

Well your mother probably warned you about talking to strangers :)

Your computer probably gives you a warning about certain types of file that you download as well when opening them, as does Firefox, Infernet Exploder, Chrome, Opera, Safari etc. etc.

It's a bit like "Health and Safety" warning on matches, trimming knife blades, plastic forks, scissors (don't run with them) etc. etc. you don't have to take notice of them, but if something happens, don't come back and say you weren't warned.

the risks of downloading files are well documented. If a user of torrent software isn't aware of this....

the issue here though is that this "new" feature has no way of turning it off.

Even MicroSlop IE gets this right (most of the time). Like in the case of remembering passwords -- it asks the first time you're entering a password "do you want save?" and you can say yes or no _and_ check a box to "don't warn me again".

Because it is a marketing "call to action" as well as a reminder of the risks.

Do you use a free Anti-Virus program? Because if you do there will be a call to action pop-up each time it updates. Even the paid ones keep offering suggestions to upgrade, buy this extra bit and so on, you cannot turn those off either.
