Qwert 321 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 I've read the forums, read the FAQs, searched through 8 pages of topics and I'm still having trouble seeding.I go to File > Add Torrent (no default save) then proceed to click on my torrent file, when I hit ok it "checks" the file then nothing happens.I've tried this with 5 different files today and I got the same results for all of them, the image you see is what I get with all my files.
emporio91 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 you may want to edit out the name of the torrent, otherwise you'll probably get warned\banned and the topic will be closedThis forum is NOT for help with videos, games, movies, or anything you've downloaded! Posting about any illegal sharing of copyrighted content is strictly FORBIDDEN.And I think that picture qualifys...

Qwert 321 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 you may want to edit out the name of the torrentThanks for the heads up, it has been edited.
Qwert 321 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/Bad_ISPsDamn it, my ISP is listed under "Prevents Seeding."At the bottom it says:Enabling Tools -> Options -> Transfer -> Use lazy bitfield will probably help.
Qwert 321 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 Update to my problem, it seems I can upload & seed fine with azureus but not with utorrent.I've been trying it all week with utorrent with no luck, I just now installed azureus and my 1st try I got.I'm seeding now at 175 kB/s. I guess utorrent is not for me.
DreadWingKnight Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Hang on QwertDid you enable lazy bitfield in uT's options?
Alpha-Toxic Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Have you tried to use protocol encryption?Options > preferences > networkoutgoing - forcedallow incoming legacy con. - offthis might help a bit
Firon Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Those are instructions for azureus. You'll find lazy bitfield in Advanced in µt, peer.lazy_bitfield. Set it to true.
Qwert 321 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 Hang on QwertDid you enable lazy bitfield in uT's options? No, see that's the thing, I didn't know uT had that option, I thought it was only for Azureus. But thanks to you and Firon, I just changed the setting now, hopefully it should work.
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 You'll have to restart your torrent(s) for it to take effect.
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 Ok, I clicked on the torrent file, then check the box "Open For Seeding" it started seeding fine without any problems.^ Is that the proper way of doing it?For some reason, when I don't click on open for seeding, it "checks" the file and then it always goes to "downloading" and not seeding.I guess I have to check the box that says "Open For Seeding."
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 No. You're seeding invalid data. If the hash check says it's not 100%, then it is NOT 100%.
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 No it always says 100% but then it always goes to "downloading" mode, does that make sense?Perhaps an error on my part? I love uTorrent but seeding is a tad complicated I must say.
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Don't use Open for Seeding. Simple as that. Let it hash check and see how much data is complete. If it says 0%, then either you pointed it to the wrong folder, or there is no valid data. If it has another value, then the data isn't fully valid. Let it download to 100%.
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 So basically, it checks to see if I've downloaded the file, and if I have 100% of it then it automatically goes to seed mode? That's what I thought I was doing, after checking is complete, it would say 100% then it would go straight into "download" mode even though the file has been downloaded. I'm just going to do it the normal way of seeding while downloading a file for the first time.My upload speed is always higher than my download speed so it doesn't matter.Seeding a file today that I downloaded yesterday or last week, seems to not work for me.Thanks for all your help Firon.
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 When you add a torrent, it checks all the data to see what pieces are valid. Then it either downloads to finish the torrent if all the pieces are not valid, or goes straight into seeding mode if they all are.In your case, they are not all valid, so it's trying to download to finish the torrent.
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 Then it that case I'm doing it correctly, forgive me Firon if I come across as a "noob" I just really want to learn how torrents in general work. As I stated in my first topic, I read the faqs, the forums and a few "help" guides, just trying to get the jist of it.Firon, being that you are an administrator, I really wanna say thank you for taking the time out to help me.You didn't have to but you did anyway, for that I thank you.
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 That's what I'm here for, to help out. Open for seeding skips the hash check, so you should only use it when you are absolutely 100% sure that the data is good. Generally, you shouldn't use this option. It's only there for say, when you just made the torrent, or if you accidentally removed a seed from the list. And as for your speed issue, have you tried using the Speed Guide and choosing your upload in kbit/s? Also, do you have a green status light?
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 I don't have a speed issue, I always like to upload more than I download. In different cases, I adjust it to optimize the performance. But other than that, my speed is ok, thanks for asking.I usually have the "Global Max Upload Rate" at 0: Unlimited and the Ratio 200%Every once in a while I bring the rate back down to 92, is what I'm doing ok?
Firon Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Well, for optimal performance while downloading, your upload cap should be 75-80% of your maximum (in KiB), but when seeding (use Alternate upload rate for that), you can uncap it.
Qwert 321 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 What should I do in this situation:So far it's been about 15 hours and I really want this file.Do you see how much I downloaded and how much I uploaded?
FearaFox Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 one seed over 180 peers = alot of waiting time. lolin that case you'l just have to wait
