Laptop FAST / Desktop SLOW

Hello,

I have an US Robotics router and I have 2 pc's hooked on it.

When I download with my laptop it goes really well; fast connected to peers/seeds , fast downloads.

But when I download using my desktop pc (same Windows, same uTorrent) it goes much more slower than with my laptop...

How come?

My router is OK configged.

I formatted my desktop pc several times but no improvement.

Config laptop: P4m 1.7Ghz , 512Mb ram

Config desktop: P3 500Mhz, 256Mb ram

Nono, absolutely not.

It's a really strange problem.

Is it maybe because my desktop pc is slower than my laptop? (non-SSE2 etc.)

But I don't see how cpu instructions could have an impact on the downloadspeed...

The special CPU instructions don't make a difference, after all, µTorrent still works on a 486 processor.

And yeah, the slower speeds might stem from the fact that the slower CPU will process connections and data more slowly.

I ran µT on an 900MHz 128MB machine and it could handle over 1MB/s.

What is this version of Windows that they both share?

1) They have to use different ports.

2) You still need to do port forwarding for both of them.

3) You can't really run both at the same time.

4) You have to make sure a software firewall isn't affecting it.

1) I DON'T use µtorrent SIMULTANIOUSLY on both systems.

2) BOTH have their OWN ports forwarded in my router.

3) I have NO software firewall running on my desktop pc.

4) They both run the same Windows XP Pro SP2 (even the same CD, different licences ;) )

5) I have a 4Mb ADSL line, so max. download speed cannot exceed +- 400kb/sec.

Any other ideas?

Same thing.

I tried several torrents on my laptop and then on my desktop pc.

When I download something with my desktop @ 15kb/sec and I try the SAME torrent on my laptop, I get speeds up to 50 - 100kb/sec.

That's bizarre... perhaps the NIC on your desktop can't handle torrents very well?

Could be, I have 2 NICs in my desktop pc.

Currently I'm using an Accton Cheetah NIC.

Tonight I'll try with the other one (3com).

But I think I've allready done that in the past....

I'll check again.

I would try doing an inter-network torrent..see if it is outside factors or your desktop. Make a torrent on one computer, download it to the other, delete data and download it back to the first computer.

What happens?
