Port not open in spite of correct procedure... what gives ??

I have just started using Utorrent and have the following set-up :

Desk-top on WLAN using a x-micro xwl-11grix Router with a 2 MB connection and the connection is working fine...

I have installed Utorrent and put up a static ip adress according to this link http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm

and have followed the port forwarding process according to this link http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/X-Micro/XWL-11GRIX/Utorrent.htm...

When I do a speedtest I am told that the port do not seem to open .... I have tried closing down all firewalls etc with the same result.... Th dot next to "DHT" is always red and tells me "not connectable"

My download speed rages from only a few Kb/s to maby around 80-100 Kb/s ... some time I have experienced that it jumped to just above 200 kb/s for some time but that is not the normal picture..... Is this normal speed in spite of what the speedtest tells me with a 2 MB line??

I can not figure out what could be wrong ....... I have observed the following things though:

- in my router: when I forward port in "virtual serves" I am told the the setting has been completde but when I go back into "virtual serves" the page is blank without any of the info I entered.... I that the reason maby ?

- I have not put in a alternative ip adress as I do not have one when I "run/cmd/ipconfig/all"..... but the set-up rutine doesnt seem to bother ?

- in Utorrent the link http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/X-Micro/XWL-11GRIX/Utorrent.htm tells me "Make sure the Enable UPnP box is unchecked" but in the picture it is checked..... what is the right setting?

- I do not have a PUBLIC static IP address..... is that the reason ?

QUESTIONS:

Question 1) If it is not the above mentioned, then I do not know what to do..... suggestions ?

Question 2) Is my speed actually normal according to what I have written above ???? (most of the day in the range from a few kb/s to around 100 kb/s with a 2 mb line)

Yeah the fact that it's getting removed is probably your problem. And yeah, if you correctly forward your ports manually, then disable UPnP. Public static IP addresses are irrelevant. And going at 100KiB/s is respectable.

hmm, strange ... Now I have solved the problem with the missing facts in the router set-up for virtual serves but still same problem with the port not beeing open... even tried using both the DNS from my router(as I usualy do) and the DNS from my internet service provider in windows without any result........ my download speed is normaly around 50-80 kb/s (with a 2 MB line through my router) ... maby its a software thing and port may be open in spite of what the speedtest tells me...??!!

..arrgggg, damn it !!!...

Do you have a firewall? That can block the port too. You did forward your port to the correct IP, yes? The one mentioned in Start -> Run -> ipconfig

I have tried to shut down my firewall and so on...... I think you mean the port that appears in utorrent/preferences/network, right ??? start/run/cmd/ipconfig doesnt give me a port ...does it?? It gives me the ip adress and so on

Shutting down a firewall will not work, only an uninstall.

ipconfig gives you the IP you need to use when making the forward for the port specified in µTorrent.

And that's the IP Firon's talking about ("The one mentioned in Start -> Run -> ipconfig"). Forward it correctly to your machine's IP Address, and if it still doesn't work, uninstall your firewall.

Thanks a lot guys...yeah, I forwarded it to the right ip... hmm, all I can do in uninstall my norman firewall program ... seems risky but ill try ...

norman firewall uinstalled ... windows disabled... corretc static ip procedure in windows ..correct forward procedure in my router .....still the "red dot" and "port not open" .... arghhh, I think im just gonna be satisfied with the speed I got... anyways it fluktuate all day between 5 and 80 kb/s.... most of the time around 50 so I guees Ill survive

Thats actually the last thing Im considering ... only problem is that my (aswell as my router) is located 20 meters away and I dont fell like having a cable running through the appartment...but maby Ill try it as my last solution
