How do I limit the upload rate for uTorrent? It is always maxing out, and it slows down my down speed considerably. I can't even browse the net while utorrent is running because my upspeed is always so high.

Someone told me the upload doesnt effect download, but .. theyre obviously wrong.. ive had this problem with emule in the past, but atleast you can limit it and it actually works in emule.

I've tried limiting it in the seeding options, to about 15 (my max is 20'ish).. it still pushes it into the 20's and sometimes 30's, and i cannot browse the net AT ALL, until i pause all my torrents. Can someone help me?

Anyways, thanks for the great app, it just keeps getting better! Its the only torrent client ill ever use. <3 <3

Yeah, I've noticed it goes above the limit sometimes, too.. Not a big problem though, but with that low limits... Personally, I use 500 kB limit, and 50 kB more or less doesn't really matter.

*points up to vurlix's post*

If that's what you're already doing and it's still overshooting by several Kb/s, that's... unusual :( Mine only ever goes one or two Kb/s over my set limit.

Because you set them in the SEEDING options. It only applies when seeding. :P You can either use DizConnected's method, which is per-torrent, or do what Vurlix said to make it apply to ALL torrents.

The reason, by the way, why saturating your upload channel has a serious effect on your download too is that TCP is a bi-directional protocol. In other words, every package you receive sends out an acknowledgement to the sending computer that it reached you. If your outgoing line is completely clogged, that acknowledgement either never gets there or gets there very late... causing the sending computer (for instance, that web page you were surfing on) to halt its transmission while it waits for that response.
