Open downloaded file warning message

Recommended Posts

Starting from last stable update (3.2 build 27886) utorrent will popup an annoying warning message window when trying to open file directly (either by double-click or right-click context menu).

"Opening unknown files from strangers can be dangerous. The file can contain viruses and other things that can harm your computer."

That is a courteous warning, if not liability waiver, and is totally fine.

The problem is there is no option to disable future warnings after users fully acknowledged the risk. Excessive warning messages can reduce users' attention for important issues. Not to mention it is very annoying. Hopefully, not a sign of AV sponsorship/nagware.

Is there no way to turn off this moronic design? moronic in both app design and in how the app treats its users.

I'm pretty sure I used to be able to just open files all the time right from within utorrent files tab. is this not a more recent change to uT's behaviour?

And don't tell me to change clients, that's a stupid suggestion.

Why??

you either workaround it. (see post #2)

OR

You live with it.

OR

You change clients.

Your choice, and whinging about it ain't gonna change it!

It might. If no one complains it could get worse. ;) as you can see I'm not the only one.

The developers also have choices, you seem to be forgetting that.

So .... Who would you blame if you downloaded a file using uTorrent, opened and your PC was infected with a trojan.

um....entirrrrrely myself. (:S ?) I'd deserve it for being so stupid. luckly, I'm not (WOOHOO!), so I don't have this problem lol. i don't get the point of your question.

Then you are in a small minority and probably expect to find hot liquid in a cup of tea from McDonalds or "Sharp objects" in a pack of trimming knife blades.

Unfortunately the majority of the world's inhabitants ARE that stupid apparently and need reminding of the fact that they are stupid at every opportunity and the rest of us have to put up with it!
