RingKoLo Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 im uploading to others very well but my dl is awfull.im have a netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router with port forwarding set for uTorrenti have turned off my NForce4 firewall (though not sure if that works because it wireless) and also have turned off Windows firewall and yes uPnP is off in uTorrent.admitedly it is a cheap mainstream wireless router but could that be the ultimate factor in why my dl is so bad?most dl's just trickle through at about 2-5Kb/si have a 2 meg cable connection.but even if i dont set up port forwarding and leave both software firewalls on it makes absolutely no difference in the speed.
Firon Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 You have to uninstall the firewall, not disable it. And that's a terrible router. Most Netgears are.Hook up to the modem directly and see if you get better results. Make sure it's a well-seeded torrent.
RingKoLo Posted April 24, 2006 Author Report Posted April 24, 2006 haha well i found out the problem its called this POS called uTorrent, after exhausting all options and on the verge of giving up because of the above persons comment about my so called terrible router i tried BitComet and tried one of the 20 torrents i was waiting for a week to download at 1-5 Kb/s and nearly spat my tea out when the speed steadily rose to 200Kb/s.problem solved. plus Bitcomet didnt moan about Nvidia Firewall either everytime i launch it.
µtorrent-Guest Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 this is because Bitcomet is the POS as you like to say! This "thing" does not care about the swarm, nor does it obay the BT protokoll rules. It does not care if it is connectable and cheats the seders, therefor you have higher DL speedsOne of the reasons why BitVOMIT is banned on many privat trackers.Be lucky that µtorrent has not this often requested "kick and ban" feature. otherwise your cheating client would be kicked by most, i guess!
Ultima Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 @RingKoLo: Good, you found something that works for you. But does that make µTorrent a POS like you say? Nah uh. A hardware limitation makes the hardware much worse a POS than software that you just can't use because of that very limitation, IMHO.
Firon Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 RingKoLo: why didn't you just uninstall the firewall? the NV firewall is utterly broken, and you caused tons of problems by having MULTIPLE firewalls.
RingKoLo Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 yup i did uninstall the nvidia firewall completely, i forwarded ports, disabled windows firewall, disabled uPnP in both utorrent and my router.and with Bitcomet i didnt have to do jack. it does what a program should do - work. and im happy with that.cheers anyway.
