exit13
Hi,i'm using following setup:- 300B (25376) 2011-06-10 17:49:03 -0700- CentOS release 6.3- kernel: 2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Oct 16 15:57:10- RAM: 8GB DDR3- storage: mdadm/raid6(6.9TB) + raid0 (2TB, as cache for active downloads)- torrents(at the moment): All - 202 (about 6TB), active - about 43-50- approximate traffic: about 7.3TB (upload - 5TB, download 2.3TB).- uplink line: 1Gbps.(more details can be found on my statistics page)- RAM cache for utorrent - 3000-4000 megabytes.Problems:1) average monthly upload is just 18 Mbps. 2) even when upload is less then 8 Mbps, I see constant read load on my storage RAID6 massive. And these values are not even comparable with current upload rates. E.g. if I have network upload rate - about 1 megaByte / sec, at the same moment I see about 55-60megaBytes of disk activity. Sometimes with peaks to 140-150megaBytes/second. If I stop utorrent, all this abnormal (from my point of view) disk activity stops. What is the reason for these reads? Precaching? Is it possible to reduce it somehow? 3) if I try to start wine+utorrent32, this strange disk activity disappears, but utorrent can't handle such amount of torrents (about 10-20 torrents become "broken" and rehashing of them does not help). Maximum size of cache - 1800. Maybe it's not enough.4) if I restart utorrent, setting of cache memory is always reset to auto.Hope for your help!Thank you in advance for any useful ideas! Kitsoran
Sounds weird. Dunno much about linux but maybe an strace would show something interesting?
exit13
Update:I've disabled read caching completely. Disk read activity reduced in 2-3 times. Upload rates increased about twice.
Kitsoran
Hm. Was that read caching in µT? Were you swapping to disk a lot?
