Siggimund Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Solved !Hey there fellow µtorrent µsersRunning µtorrent 1.5 (build 437) seriously slows down my system.Stuttering video play back, mouse is stuttering, switching tasks takes longer etc.Sysinternals Process Explorer reports high cpu usage on utorrent.exe,- between 8 and 20 %, though the cpu usage on DPC's is fairly low so that does not seem to be the problems ( see Faq - I get very high CPU use... )(btw. in ref. to above link - mswsock.dll is the only dll hooked into the utorrent process, so no cigar there either)Version 1.4.1 (beta-build 425) does not show this behaviour.I'm using a Norman Firewall ( no - not Norton Firewall ) and Norman Virus Control, but I can't believe they are the problems since Version 1.4.1 works fine with them.Anyway up and down speed does not seem to be affected.tiaSiggimund
Firon Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Norman is most likely the cause. (it was causing crashes for some people, and turns out it was Norman's doing)
Siggimund Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 Thx FironNorman is most likely the cause. (it was causing crashes for some people, and turns out it was Norman's doing)Right on target.Uninstalled the Norman Personal Firewall part (NPF) of Norman Internet Control (NIC) an keept the Norman Virus Control (NVC) part.(Warning! To other people using NIC - remember to manually activate Windows build-in firewall because Norman configuration Editor doesn't seem to automatically activate the Windows Firewall when uninstalling NPF)Problem solved.Cpu usage normal and no stuttering. But still weird that previous versions prior to and including 1.4.1 (beta-build 425) wasn't affected.Anyway thx again FironSiggimund
Firon Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 There was some change in network handling, and it opens connections more aggressively, which some firewalls don't like and they just freak out, apparently.
splintax Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Hurray, another problem solved by uninstalling shitty AV/firewall.
