Zipped Binary rather then installer

I just want a zip archive that I can extract and run the program w/out having to run a windows installer. I have many apps that I use like eMule or FileZilla. I like it because if I reinstall and foget to save my settings they're not lost.

You don't need to install µTorrent O.o

It's a self-contained binary. You just have to open utorrent.exe and that's all there is to it.

As for settings... well, that's a different thing. It's located in %appdata%uTorrent, and I don't think you can change that.

keep it as it is!!!

we don't need extra steps to set it up, that would just add more confusion to the whole deal. It's perfect right now, kind of like the olden days; you make a directory and copy the files there and just run the .exe or .com and be done with it.

@ScubaSteve: No, zipping doesn't increase the size. I tried it already, and it decreases it by about 3KB (not much to write home about, but still not an increase =)

@iatacs19: From tkout's posts, it seems that he misunderstood and thought that µTorrent currently uses an installer. He doesn't seem to know that it is just the .exe on it's own (or at least that's the impression I've gotten from him so far -- not 100% sure).

well wadda ya know it doesnt add any to it, i woulda thought that seeing as its been so tightly compressed it wouldnt have anymore bits left to squash.

still pointless to zip it though.

what you probably meant tkout, would be to have the settings saved in the applications local directory, rather than in /application data/... on c:

I too would prefer this as I personally loathe the registry and programs spreading it's configs outside it's local directory.

that said, utorrent is such a great program that I can live with this small nag :D

Don't blame the original poster. Windows makes it pretty hard to tell sometimes, especially with custom installers.

I don't have this problem with other maintained OS's :)
