Phase3 Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 I've been using utorrent for a while now, it's an excellent programme. Just I was a bit worried when I went on to find that my files were missing. I had some problems on the previous restart, with loading the programme, though I restarted (it couldn't locate utorrent, even if it was there) and everything seems alright, the next time there was nothing there. Although my actual files were intact, both the complete and the incomplete.V. 1.5Windows XPDownload Folder - H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads (default).I have not changed anything since it worked. Help!Edit:I would also like to retrieve the ones I was previously downloaded, as for large files which have disappeared as a result of this and left incomplete files in the downloads folder. Would it help if I did arrange the folders appropriately, although it functioned fine before without organising it.
Ultima Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Make sure all the settings in the Folder page of the Preferences point to unique folders.
µtorrent-Guest Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 look in %appdata%/utorrent if the torrent files are still there. If so, make copies of the .dat and .dat.old files.then delete the originals in the folder and start µtorrent again. It will create the nessesary settings files from scratch new and you can enter the torrents again. But make shure with looking in the taskmanager CTRL+ALT+DEL that there is no instance of µtorrent already running but no visual GUI for it.
Phase3 Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 I have make each folder unique, however, I did not have them unique before.Put new downloads in :H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\New (with "Always show dialog on manual add" ticked )Move completed downloads to:H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\Completed ( with "Only move from the default download directory" & Append the torrent's label to the directory name" )Store .torrent files in:H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\torrentMove .torrent files for finished jobs to :H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\torrentfinishedIt might also be noted that when I usually download a torrent file I just click on the file and let utorrent open it.There are no instances of utorrent running already.I found this folder, however, it only has the files of an old installation.[Don't double post.]
Ultima Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Choosing unique directories should solve the problem. I wouldn't advise clearing your settings unless it's absolutely irreparable, and in this case, it's not. You just have to load your torrents again from the µTorrent directory (%appdata%\uTorrent), and everything else should be fine.
Phase3 Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 I found this folder, however, it only has the files of an old installation.I found the apps folder, it does not include my current downloads in my downloads folder. Would you recommend a restart?
Firon Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 your .torrents are probably in the old auto-load folder.Don't double post or bump your own threads, please.
peterle3107 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I think I have a similar problem. I had those last days a few computer crashes. After Restart of Win XP and uTorrents a large portion (Percentage) of my downloaded uncomplete torrents have disappeard. Need help please!!!
Firon Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Make absolutely sure all the folders specified in Folders are unique, and that auto-load is in a unique folder as well.
silly001 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I am/was experiencing the same problem1. Ended uTorrent2. Located resume.dat and resume.dat.old3. Deleted resume.dat and resume.dat.old4. Executed uTorrent5. Opened the target " .torrent " files6. uTorrent began file assessmentI assume uTorrent is writing resume.dat during the file assessment and not going to start the download from scratch.. It looks like it is going to work =)Could this be a bug of some sort? I was downloading fine, didn't change any vital settings that I was aware of while I was poking around in the options interface. I rebooted on a whim since it has been a while since I rebooted. When uTorrent executed at startup, the download list was empty. I have to admit I panicked because the files were rather large and my connection rather slow >_>Peter, your situation seems a bit different but I believe the solution COULD be applied.. it is a GAMBLE since I don't know how configurations could affect it.
Phase3 Posted May 1, 2006 Author Report Posted May 1, 2006 My files were also huge. I have 512kbps. I have screenshots of my situation. Apologises for bumping the thread, but I thought I was just being pushed under. The files are not in the Application Data folder.[dead image removed](Paths I entered after the thread's advice)[dead image removed][dead image removed]EDIT by silverfire: Dead image links removed
silly001 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Phase.1. shutdown uTorrent2. go to " H:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\uTorrent\ " (assuming you are logged in as Administrator )3. delete resume.dat and resume.dat.old4. run the target " .torrent " files to jumpstart uTorrent ( assuming you have the file association set )5. look at the status column to be sure it is checking the files as it shouldAny snags? Tell me about it =)Oh, if you changed any directory information earlier make sure the changes are reflected both in the options interface and the actual download directories.µtorrent-Guest's advice kinda left a little problem there
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Phase3just to be shure i was not wrongly understand. With the application data folder i was refering to the one that µtorrent uses.Read the FAQ entry about it if there might me a missunderstandinghttp://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#What_is_AppData.3F
silly001 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 >_>Actually, the %AppData% shortcut doesn't work on EVERY windows operating systemMy laptop runs windows XP and my desktop runs windows ME ( 500mhz, pretty much outdated )If it's not just me that notices this perhaps the FAQ needs to be updated ^^
Phase3 Posted May 5, 2006 Author Report Posted May 5, 2006 Thanks, it worked. They've been all checked correctly. The AppData shortcut works on my 64bit system. I remember having a 500Mhz CPU actually. Sometimes it wasn't able to run MSN Messenger.
Ultima Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 @silly001: It does work on every OS, all the way back to Windows 95 (don't know if it works beyond that, but who cares ;P).
nishnet2002 Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Hey i faced similar problem and this is how it got resolved...ProblemI had kept two huge files for d/l and 50% of those were already complete. Now when i restarted the computer.. and started utorrent it didn't show any file !!SolutionI simply dragged those torrent files ".torrent' and utorrent resumed the d/l
Ultima Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 That's not a real solution as opposed to a makeshift fix. A real solution would prevent such problems indefinitely, as has been prescribed above ;P
