rray Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I am a new member and very new to "torrents". I have been trying to download several AVI files using uTorrent. I thought I was successful but I am unable to play the downloaded AVI files in Windows Media Player (which is where I normally play AVI and movie files). I get the following error messages when I try to play the files on Windows Media Player: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file" "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found." Both messages deal with "codecs" but they do not specify which one(s) are needed or how to get them. All of the AVI files that I downloaded appear to be complete (correct size, have the .avi extension, showed to be "finished" in uTorrent with no error messages). FYI, I am running Windows XP Home SP2. And I am not having trouble playing other AVI files. Can anyone tell me how to get the necessary codecs or is there a better program to try & view the AVI files in (with no codec problem)? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.Robert
Wobbud Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Sorry...This forum is NOT for help with videos, games, movies, or anything you've downloaded!
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 ja, these downloaded avis from www.legaltorrents.com can be tricky, Try VLC (also Open Source!) to play these Open Source (!) xvid encoded files. DO NOT PLAY Illegal downloaded copyrighted stuff, cause this forum is not for pirated stuff ;-)videolan.org
rray Posted May 2, 2006 Author Report Posted May 2, 2006 Thanks. I'm pretty sure these are legal files. I was really wondering if I had done something wrong in the downloading process that would give me "crippled" AVIs.Robert
Ultima Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Unless there is something fundamentally wrong with your computer itself (hardware, or whatever), then your files won't get corrupted. In any case, legal or not, this forum should not be used for support on whatever you downloaded =T
