Just wanted to say thanks for the Linksys WRT54G info in the FAQ.

When I was at my old appartment, I had a Bell Sympatico DSL connection and was using my Linksys WRT54G v1.1 Router with the offical 4.20.7 firmware. I never really had speed problems with the DSL, but sometimes after downloading for long periods I would have to power cycle the router to get the internet working. Well last week a moved back home with my Mom for awhile and she a Rogers Cable Connection. Whenever I tired to download I would only get 5-10kb/s and even when downloading at the slow speeds I really notice the internet connection slowing to a crawl and was un-usable until I power cycled... I also knew it had nothing to do with my port forwarding as I have been doing that correctly for years.....I thought it was an issue with my ISP doing some speed throttling..

So after reading the forums and finally seeing the FAQ I saw the bit about the problem with the Linksys WRT54G fireware having issues with multiple connections... but I wasn't convinced that was the problem as I never had problems with my DSL connection... so I took a chance anyways.. and flashed the Thibor14 firmware to my router.. and what a difference... my download that was going at 5-10kb/s was in the 50-100kb/s range... and even after long periods of downloading the internet was still usable....

So I just wanted to say thanks for putting that info in the FAQ... it has made a big differences.. and I'm really thankful.... *smiles*... =^_^=

same thing happens with my WRT54G router i always have to unplug my router after dling over night and stuff. And my speeds are going really slow now all of the sudden, so you think that was the answer to your problems? if so ima need do that. was it easy to do ? becuase im not the smartest with computers but i do know some stuff, wanna know if i can do it myself.

It is quite easy, oddy. And yes, that is probably the cause. Just make sure you clear the nvram and re-configure the router when you upgrade.

It was really easy... I just logged into the router and went to the admin tab and then firmware upgrade... them browsed to the Thibor14 firmware and them upgraded... it even keeped all my settings... but I wrote down my settings and reset the router with the button at the back after I flashed... just to make sure everything is running fresh...... I'm not sure how to clear the NVRAM... I never had to do that myself... also... from reading on the http://www.linksysinfo.org/ forums, it seem like a new Thibor15 firmware will be out today actually if all goes well.... I think everyone should upgrade... I choose the HyperWRT/Thibor release over DD-WRT because it looks pretty much the same as the orginal Linksys firmware.. just with lots of new features.. I'm very impressed with the improvements....

AmyGrrl: Administration -> Factory Defaults -> Clear NVRAM.

It's something you -really- should do when changing to a different firmware.

I will do that from now one... I finally saw how to do that on the Thibor website also.... which is funny because of all the times I flashed KaiStation and back to the Offical bios and now Thibor's firmware... not once had I done that.. I guess I'm just lucky I didn't brick my router...... =^_^=

Yeah. Remember, you'll have to re-configure everything.

AmyGrrl: it generally won't cause bricks, but it can cause a lot of weird problems (speed issues, router crashing, features not working, etc). It's just considered a good idea to ensure everything goes just right.

thanks i did it, and now my downloads are going 2x the speed, thAnsk to firon, and amygrrl for posting this thread.

Make sure you forward your ports again! :P

And after you clear the nvram, I suggest you do ipconfig /renew to ensure you get a new IP, then make your forwards again to that IP.

Glad things are working for you oddy.. I know how happy I've been since I flash HyperWRT/Thibor14 to my router... 4 days uptime and haven't had to power cycle once.... I remember I would sometimes power cycle several times at day... I'll post again in this thread when the new Thibor15 release is out....

Merged double post:

Actually the New HyperWRT/Thibor15 is out now.... http://www.thibor.co.uk/

i have one more question, when i go to my control panel then click network and internet connections then i go to windows firewall, it has a dot in the place that says Off but when i go to the exceptions tab at the top in the list of programs it says utorrent is checked and then in there i can go to add a port and type in the name off the port and the number should i do that for my utorrent?

EDIT: I dont understand my downloads are all still going slow, the first time i started to download righht after i upgraded thre firmware it went up to 60 kB/s but after a day of downloading the 2 combined cant get over 30 kB/s and my ports are forwareded and my firewall is off, i just dont get it.it is doing th eexact same thing it did before i pgraded my firmware, theres something else wrong and i cant find it./

Hmm... not really sure what might else be the problem... have you tried different torrents.... could be some faster seeders stopped seeding.... it sounds like the windows firewall is off, do you have any other software firewall's.. I know I use Norton and it comes with some crappy Internet Worm Protection Firewall.... I know that the Linksys itself has a firewall that might cause problems.... I also read that you should disable UPnP on the Router and just use Port Forwarding.... But regaurdless I still think HyperWRT/Thibor15 is a better firmware choice if not just for not having to power cycle anymore because the internet wouldn't work anymore.... also.. did you clear the NVRAM before and after upgrading the firmware to make sure everything took....

yeah i cleared all the nvram. reset my setting correcly, the router firewall is disabled, the windows firewall is off and i have norton but whenever i dl i right click and go to Disable Nroton internet securtiy.

Damn seriously? i dunno if i wanna do that? does it protect my computer alot or is it just wasting space? OFf topic: but i see people saying upload speed at 20 kB/s is fast? is taht fast becuase mine go at about 25 to 30 kB/s uploading each.

Thibor released an updated HyperWRT/Thibor15b...I doubt that it will sovle your problem.. but just thought you should know... Have tried connecting your DSL/Cable Modem directly to your PC and disable any firewall's and see waht kinda upload/download speeds on multiple torrents... then connect up the router and see if you get the same speeds... if the results stay the same then I'd say your ISP may be throttling... if they are different then maybe the router the problem... I know sometimes when starting a new torrent that it takes 30 minutes to and hour to get upto full speed for that torrent...

naw ive been downloading for days now and they go slow, but im just wondering how fast do your downloads go kB/s? and im connected to a router that is in the front room by another cpu for my parents and the cable modem is there. so how would i connnect my cable modem directly to my cpu?

o and i alreay dled thibor 15+

Sorry about the late reply... been busy... BTW..... Thibor 15c is the newest.... lots of bug fixes.... I'm still impressed with this firmware.... my current Uptime is...... 9 days, 15 hours, 27 minutes.... I've never had to power cycle I can always access my router....the only time the net is slow is because I'm using the bandwidth... I stop the download and everything is perfect.... remember I had to power cycle all the time because of a bug in the original Linksys firmware not closing connections when they were done....so I couldn't open new connections until I power cycled..... Thibor rocks for his kick ass bios.......... BTW to anwser your speed question.....I can get 20kb/s on some.... 40kb/s on some... was getting 100kb/s on my doctor who torrent.... and I'm using the newer uTorrent 1.5.1 beta build 460... regaurdless... I'm happy I get more than 5kb/s like I used to until I flashed Thibor 15c
