yoda_the_green Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 after running utorrent for a random amount of time, my internet connection gets lost and i have to reset my modem and router. what is the problem? please help.
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 you have crappy networkequippment that can not handle the traffic generated by µtorrent in its recommended settings, according to your maximum possible Uploadspeed. (CTRL+G)You can try disabeling DHT/PEX in µtorrent to lighten the ammound of traffic that is to be transfered over your Modem/Router equipment.Or get better hardware ;-)
Firon Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 PEX has nothing to do with it, no point disabling it.DHT on the other hand does. Try turning it off, loweing your global connections, or getting better hardware.
yoda_the_green Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 thx ill try that right now? and if that doesnt work will it be the same with other torrent programs?btw, i have a netgear wgr614 v3 router (i think) if that makes a difference....
Ultima Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Yep, it'll be the same with other torrent clients if it doesn't help even after you do as Firon suggests.
Firon Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Most Netgear routers suffer from these issues. Turning off DHT should help, as well as keeping global connections low.
yoda_the_green Posted May 5, 2006 Author Report Posted May 5, 2006 ok i turned off DHT and its been running for like 5 hours now, so that did fix the problem of my internet cutting out. But without the DHT im getting like 12kbps dl and im getting a red circle. does that sound right?
Firon Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 The tracker is down or just unreliable on your particular torrent.
µtorrent-Guest Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 firon, have you a short explanation (or a link!) for me what µtorrents peer exchange (PEX) exactly do regarding the bandwith issues compared to DHT, because up until now i have not known that PEX will not use "much" bandwith. And would leaving PEX enabled but DHT disabled mean that you could find other peers when the tracker is down? (Even if the peers are just fellow µtorrenteers)
Firon Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 PEX is just a normal peer communication message, it's not an additional network. It's sent through existing peer connections. If you had no peers and the tracker was down, then PEX will not do anything, since you need connected peers that support PEX.
pex Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Sir Firon can you please recommended a bestest router for me please, because i use d-link dsl-210 usb modem and it restart often when i use bittorent :-/
Russ Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 i got the same problem with my net cuts bitlord (currently using) works but that client sucks and i took off DHT but it goes at 0 -1 kb/s its not the amont of people that cuts me off its something else its like the data packets it sends goes off to no where i dont have a static ip so thats another problem
Firon Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Turn off UPnP, lower the number of global connections to less than 200. Make sure your upload is capped to 75%.pex: I don't know any good ADSL modems.
