Update check not working

To the smart moderator who closed my other thread: I did a search on this message board for "update AND utorrent" as well as "update AND 3.2" and found no relevant thread that answered my problem. And no, "beating a dead horse" is not a helpful answer.

I'm using version 3.2.something. Whenever I use the update check from the menu, it tells me there's no new version out there, despite 3.3 being available as a download since a while now.

Is 3.3 a completely new version that's not recognized by the update checker from 3.2? How should people

know they have to update 3.2 which might be full of bugs and security issues?

Sumo (http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?sumo) shows there are still about 10% of the users that have version 3.2 installed because they weren't informed that there's a new version.

Not every update request is serviced 'on demand', to prevent overloading of the delivery servers.

How should people know they have to update 3.2 which might be full of bugs and security issues?

by not relying on automatically updating and especially if they have set "[ ] Do not notify me when updates are available"
