ClaudiuS
Same time I was excluded from a torrent-site due to apparently been too critical, my system went crazy.I can't get to the torrentsite; get error 403 - forbidden. When I Start utorrent my system goes mad: IE wont connect to anything, cant get mail with outlook express and cant ping my own router. If I dont start utorrent everything seems normal. I tried to change portrange, which helped for a few minutes.Any1 got a clue what to do? ( And please spare me for comments on not to offend other people).ClaudiuS
Ultima
Disable DHT. If that doesn't help, patch TCPIP.SYS.
ClaudiuS
Apparently it helped to disable DHT. How and why? What about the tcpip.sys patch? got some informative links?Btw thanx ;o)
µtorrent-Guest
Because DHT stresses a line a lot with many UDP packets.
ClaudiuS
Sure, but that hasn't been a problem for the last 2 years, so why just now?
µtorrent-Guest
you have µtorrent versions since Two years?! WOW thats amazing
ClaudiuS
No, but maybe for a year or more, and before that azureus. Never had problems of that kind before. But it seem solved. Only I would like to know how this could be done.
µtorrent-Guest
afaik from reading in the forums in µT 1.5 the DHT implementation has changed a bit. It's now more "agressive". Oviously your hardware is not capable of handling µtorrents way of the ditributed hash table implementation and "went crazy" as you sayed. so either disable DHT in µT or make shure your system is more robust for the handling of this UDP packets
ClaudiuS
I updated to version 1.5 when it came out, been using this for weeks. My hardware hasn't changed 36 hours ago. This is a result of malicious act from 1 or a few angry teens that doesn't stand criticisme! I just want to stop the damage and maybe find some evidence to hold them responsible! µtorrent-Guest
"This is a result of malicious act from 1 or a few angry teens that doesn't stand criticisme!"Huh? Whats the connection with µtorrent then? What are you talking about?Edit:And btw. the 403 "error" is just the message from the server that it does not want you/your IP.403 ForbiddenThe server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it. Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated. If the request method was not HEAD and the server wishes to make public why the request has not been fulfilled, it SHOULD describe the reason for the refusal in the entity.RFC2616
Ultima
@ClaudiuS: No, the problem lies with your router.
ClaudiuS
To utorrent-Guest: Your explanation confirms: I was kicked. To Ultima: Maybe in your world there is room for coincidences like this, but not in mine. I've been downloading torrents for years now, the last year or so with utorrent, and I've never had troubles like this before. I've changed nothing in my routersettings lately! Why should this happen at the same time?
µtorrent-Guest
so claudius,to repeat my question: what has your thread opening with the headline "Security problem" here in the troubleshooting section of µtorrentforum , to do with the fact that you misbehaved in another forum and were kicked there?Technicaly nothing and there is no "security problem" within µtorrent. ClaudiuS
When someone can use utorrent and/or settings in it to make my pc go crazy, YES there's a security problem! Besides I'm not misbehaving, but when people make you download 4,3 Gb of rubbish and then is reluctant to help out afterwards, wouldn't you make a remark? Wobbud
It's not a uTorrent issue if someone somehow malliciously attacked your PC. It's unlikely (that if anything was done) that it was done using uTorrent. It's more likely a security issue with your PC, not uTorrent itself. ClaudiuS
So please, tell me why this only happened when utorrent was started?. Please
µtorrent-Guest
claudius, you make a wrong analogy there.your analogie is exactly as stupid as if you would say: your problems ONLY happens when Mr. zinjang in chinpay in china switches his TV on.There is no connection between µtorretn and your problems. The connection is between using some of the most unsecure, for their holes known applications like IE and Outlook, and the case that u have pissed of some other guys that maybe attacked your PC where u running such unsecure full of errors applications.http://secunia.com/vendor/1/And if you are so "stupid" to download 4.3GB of "rubish" no, why would you in the first place. BTW i just guess it was a private tracker. It is on private trackers very unlikely to download "rubbish",cause private trackers are more community bases. No one would really post "rubbish" there. Its more likely the cause that YOU have had no clue what to do with the downlaoded date/handle it according to the filetype and when you then bullied around there what kind of axxholes they are(or such) then no wonder why the kicked you!
ClaudiuS
You're right about 1 thing, and 1 thing only, it was a private tracker! And I download faithfully because it use to be OK. But this wasn't and after several remarks the uploader started a hole new torrent with fixed version! Instead of making a FIX, which would have been less than 10 Mb.To your orientation, My rubbish application has improved after diasabling DHT in utorrent ;o) Remarkably, wouldn't you say?And please stop your aggressive guesses, I'm not after utorrent, in fact I'm still using it. I'm just telling what I experience
Ultima
I've been downloading torrents for years now, the last year or so with utorrent, and I've never had troubles like this before. I've changed nothing in my routersettings lately! Why should this happen at the same time?Because the same thing happened with me a while ago. I was going fine with DHT enabled for several months. I didn't change anything in my router. All of a sudden, my router starts giving out. I disable. It's fine. I've had NO issues with any script kiddies or whatever of any sort trying to get at me, so it's your router. Besides this, other people on the forums have reported the same thing, so what makes you think this whole thing is about little kids trying to attack your computer? Finally, µTorrent's connection algorithm or DHT implementation or whatever (can't remember what) got a little more aggressive in the newer versions, which might also explain why you've been experiencing this recently.BTW (random sidenote), µTorrent's only been out for a little over 7 months, so that's not really a year ;P
ClaudiuS
OK, that fair talking. Wasn't aware that others had this experience too. But you must admit that when 2 things happen simultaneously you start thinking, without neccessirily being paranoid. You could have said it yesterday ;oP.About the time: It feels like a year, a good year.
Firon
There's no security problem here, only broken routers and/or broken firewalls. And since we've already established this fact... no point to continue this thread.
