boone
I have a 40 down 5 up internet package and when I run the setup guide I get what I would expect out of the upload info and thats aound 4.6-4.8 (see image). When I look at the download info it says 1mb/s. Now this is the highest I've seen it tonight. I have been running tests and it was usually around .65 to .75 kb/s, that didn't seem right given my ISP package. I ran the ndt tool in M-labs and that was where i was getting the low download speeds and they were similar to the setup guide download info. When I run the speed test from the my isp site it says 37.6 or so and 4.03. This isn't unregular so why does M-lab and the utorrent setup guide say my download speeds are so low? I did just reinstall my OS and reinstalled all my programs if that makes any difference. I am also running malewarebytes too. I have made an exception in my firewall for utorrent as well.https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86308715/mlab.pnghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86308715/setupguide.png
ciaobaby
The download speds depend on how fast the connected peers will send pieces.
boone
Ok but in the setup guide section when I run the test to configure my client shouldn't the donwload information say at least close to what I pay for from my ISP?

Is that right? and does that have an impact on how fast I donwload? earlier today I saw this up at 28mb/s which was more like what I usually see. Why would this be so low? Beasly
Centurylink speed tests are not accurate. Results are slower than actual up and down.Try speedtest.net for more accurate results...Thanks!
boone
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86308715/speedtest.net.pngI don't know man century link usually provides me with about as accurate a test as I can get. That's not even the point though. I am wondering why the setup guide shows my downloads extremely lower than what I actually get. the upload info is always spot on as you can see but the download info is completely off. I get the same low data when I use M-labs NDT tool as well. earlier today I was able to get 28 mb/s which was more like it. I just don't know why it's so low. Most importantly does it have an impact on how utorrent downloads and the speed at which it downloads?
ciaobaby
Because the setup guide creates settings that ALLOW YOU TO USE the Internet for other things at the same time as uTorrent is running!!!!!!!
boone
So does that mean the set up guide has a direct impact on how the speed of my downloads. I thought it was just how fast seeders were sending it out that mattered? I guess what I'm asking is since the setup guide info for download is wrong does it have a negative impact on my downloads and if so is there any way to manipulate it?Thanks, and I'm not trying to kick a dead horse but I am trying to understand. boone
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86308715/setupguide2.pngI ran this test today and this is what I'm used to seeing if not a little more. I'm really trying to understand how the set up guide works and there doesn't seem to be a lot of info other than it optimizes utorrent for you. I still have questions you know? Why would I get this high of a download rate today and practically nothing yesterday?
ciaobaby
It's called a GUIDE for a very good reason, it doesn't 'optimise' anything, it's a fairly conservative starting point from where YOU can then "tweak" settings depending on how YOU are going to use the client. It cannot tell if you are going to be running a single job or 1000 jobs (not recommended by the way). You start from the basics that the guide gives, and then you test, adjust, test, adjust and repeat until happy.I thought it was just how fast seeders were sending it out that mattered? The jobs you run and the connected peers ARE the final arbiter of speeds. But you could certainly screw it up, especially if you follow a YouTube "tutorial".
boone
Do you recommend and tweaks for a network as fast as mine 40 down 5 up? Right now I have it set to whatever utorrent configured it to and haven't messed with anything other that stopping my upload when it reaches a 1.0 ratio. I also have my upload capped at about 460 or so.

boone
I agree on the tweaking but do you have any ideas on what I can tweak to test different possibilities?
