can't find settings.dat

downloaded µTorrent 1.1.1-dev and thought that all the settings would be set to default.. but it wasnt. it had picked up my settings from µTorrent 1.1.

cant find settings.dat anywhere and because I want µTorrent 1.1.1-dev with its default settings I dont know what to do next :/

click Start - Run in windows.

type %appdata% hit enter

you should find a folder there called uTorrent

inside you will find Settings.dat

When I ran it half my settings were set to the defaults (column order, etc) but some were set correctly (default download location, etc) and it asked me whether I wanted to set the .torrent file handler to uTorrent, even though it was already default...

Edit: It seems that each time I open uTorrent now it asks me if I want to set the handler for .torrent

What exactly was uTorrent meant to do regarding the settings in this dev release? Has something changed making the old settings.dat corrupt?

In version 1.1.1-dev, I added some columns to the main view. Whenever I add columns to a list, the settings for it will automatically get reset.

If the exe file is changed, it will ask you to associate uTorrent to that exe file.

Thats why i change the filename to utorrent.exe here, better that way for me since i use hotkeys to launch apps

I tried to see these settings but it says i dont have the correct program to open them. Where can i get this software?

You don't open them. You configure through the µTorrent preferences.

The settings file is in binary and bencoded terms. You wont have much luck modifying it yourself unless you know what you are doing (and you shouldnt modify it anyway).
