Meta-Starman Ness
Hello. I am writing this message because since I reinstalled Windows XP SP2, µTorrent always gives me a red light status even though I opened the port (4667 in this case). I checked µTorrent's port checker utility, and says that port is open (and thus getting low download speeds). Windows XP Firewall is disabled, and both TCP and UDP 4667 ports are open (not sure which one µTorrent uses). I also have the TCP/IP Connection patch set to the maximum (1 million connections I think). So what can it be? Here are my system specs/stuff:CPU AMD Sempron 3000+Motherboard ASRock Upgrade NF3 with nVidia nForce 3 chipsetsADSL Router XAVI Amper 7768r (with ADSL 1024/350)Ethernet Adapter Realtek RTL8139Windows XP Professional Edition SP2 with its firewall turned offAntivirus Avast! 4.6.691 with P2P Protection offP.S: Tried using an higher port (31337), µTorrent's port checker said that port was closed even though I opened it myself before. Firon
http://btfaq.com/natcheck.plI bet this port tester will fail.
Meta-Starman Ness
Yes, it did.Attempting connect to: (ip adress) port 4667Fail!Successfully connected, but didn't get proper a BitTorrent client response. Make sure you entered a correct hash ID that corresponds to the active torrent on your system. Most likely, your network is properly configured, but repeat this test with a valid hash ID to be sure.Response was: ''After starting the thread, I did set up a download/upload speed limit (100kB/20kB), but that didn't solve anything.EDIT: Slow internet speeds solved; red light is still there though. µtorrent-Guest
I also have the TCP/IP Connection patch set to the maximum (1 million connections I think).Mega ultra giga (highest i think) ROFLMAO!!
Ultima
Firstly, 1 million isn't possible. Secondly, it's entirely useless to allow that many. As for slow internet speeds, disable DHT. And you're not using any firewall, right? I know you said you disabled Windows Firewall, but that doesn't mean you don't have another software firewall ;P
Meta-Starman Ness
The slow internet speeds was just yesterday. Restarted the router, problem solved.Still, I have the red light problem. And nope, no firewalls are active in my computer.
Firon
Something is blocking µTorrent from getting a listening port, as shown by the fact that the BTFaq port tester failed. Switch to a random port and try forwarding it again, just to see.Try uninstalling Avast too.
Meta-Starman Ness
Uninstalled Avast!, changed port to a random one and forwarded it (60151).Nothing works, I still have the stupidly low speed and the red light.Attempting connect to: (ip adress) port 60151Fail!Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port.Brings me to think it's a hardware problem, because µTorrent ran perfectly in my old AMD Athlon XP 1700+ with a DFi AD77 Infinity motherboard; same router. Firon
Hmm... Have you tried running process explorer and seen what's hooked into the µTorrent process in the Threads tab?
Ultima
@Meta-Starman Ness: The error the port checker gave didn't mention you being behind a proxy, did it?
Meta-Starman Ness
@Ultima: Nope.Hmm... Have you tried running process explorer and seen what's hooked into the µTorrent process in the Threads tab?Yeah... Only utorrent.exe and mswsock.dll!WSPStartup.In the TCP/IP tap, the port 60151 TCP is shown as listening. There's also a bunch of other addresses shown as "established", and the port 60151 UDP... doesn't say anything. Also, in Process Explorer, utorrent.exe's name is shown with a purple background while the other explorer.exe processes have a blue background. I'm sure it means something, but dunno what.
Ultima
Purple means compressed executable. There's nothing suspicious looking when you double click each thread, right?Anyway, in Process Explorer, click on utorrent.exe and press Ctrl+D, look for anything you think shouldn't be there, and then for Ctrl+H. Suspicious as in maybe security software, or whatever else you think shouldn't be needed for µTorrent to work.
Meta-Starman Ness
Hm. The only suspicious-looking thing is rasadhlp.dll (Remote Access AutoDial Helper) but I think it's a Microsoft service. For the most part it's all Microsoft DLLs, APIs and the like.
