readeatsleep
Hello everyone,I am having a strange issue with uTorrent. I'm using Version 1.8.4 (29446). Router: ASUS RT 66U. Computer: Macbook pro retina 15"It seemed like it was working fine prior to now. I have recently switched router (from EA6500 to RT66U). I have forwarded ports on the ASUS. When I open uTorrent everything seems to be working fine, green light and seeding/downloading normally. But then after a while the green light turns orange and everything just stops (10 kb/s downloading and no uploading). If I quit uTorrent and reopen again, same thing happens: it works then stops working. I'm not sure what to do at this point.Thanks!C.
ahoyhoy
I am having this exact same issue on OS X 10.9 Mavericks with utorrent 1.8.4. I also tried 1.8.3, same issue. At startup, downloading works normally but after 1 to 2 minutes, speeds drop all the way from 6 MB/S down to 10 KB/S. It then remains at 10 KB/S until I quit the app and restart it. When I restart it, 1 to 2 minutes later, same issue.I confirmed the issue was not my connection by trying the same torrents in another client. Worked fine, but I want to use uTorrent!I already tried reinstalling the app and clearing my library-application support-utorrent folder. nothing seems to work. readeatsleep
HeyMy problem seems to have been solved but I have no idea why that is. I kept uTorrent open overnight and now I'm downloading from PirateBay and it's working just fine.
readeatsleep
It happened again! I left uTorrent open overnight and when I woke up it was showing orange and not uploading anything. I quit it, re-opened it and then it got worse: it turned to red. Then it suddenly came back to green and started uploading normally (it's only been a few minutes so maybe it's going to go back to orange and stop uploading again). ciaobaby
downloading from PirateBay You are never "downloading from PirateBay" as no content is stored there.

pmartynas
After updating to 10.9 I have the same problem. It appears that utorrent (1.8.4) quickly overfills disk cache because it just stays like that forever and downloading speed drops to 9.6K/: https://www.dropbox.com/s/avdd5rf4xe4mj2j/disk.png
iDenni
I still have the same problem. It seems to be a cache problem indeed, since the speed drops suddenly when the cache reaches 100%. I'm now downloading small files to my internal disk first, but some of the stuff I download are more then 100GB which I can't put on my internal HDD (that's the whole point of using a external HDD). Has someone tried getting back to an older version (f.e. 1.8.1)? Can you keep your active torrents while downgrading or should I first contintue downloading these? By the way; if you limit your connections and speed your cache won't be full that quick. It's not a good solution (I always download with 150k max now), but it's better then 3 hours of downloading at 10k.
wossaaat
As people have already figured out, this is clearly a cache problem, where it's not able to write to the HDD fast enough. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off pre-allocation of files in the Mac version? I get this problem with overly large files, and it's usually at its worst when creating the initial file, so I'm wondering if turning off pre-allocation might help. The ability to change the cache might also be helpful... Or if anyone has any other solutions to this problem, I'd be very happy to learn it. From what I hear from Windows users, the problem is specific to uTorrent rather than hardware, so maybe switching to another client for overly large downloads would be of benefit. odvan
I have the same problem, it started recently. At the start great speed then seconds later it's 10 kb/s. If you didn't touch anything after some time it begin to download like usual, then again 10 kb/s. I couldn't figure it out yet. It's definitely a problem with a disk cache. And it wasn't like that in the past. It seems a common problem todays (several other topic about the same issue), I hope developers would note it, because vuse client works like clockwork and downloads everything fast and smooth. I experimented yesterday a bit - increasing cache to 2GB - it downloads like usual, but instead there are "flush do disk" problem. So I will continue experimenting with settings. Pre-allocation ON should fix this problem, but another setback it wouldn't work with magnet links - like on piratebay.
