vanDivX
not sure if this is just run of the mill problem where people get modem and or router problems and have to cure them by resetting them (power down and back up) and they are told to limit global max # of connection or switch of DHT etc.what happens is I run just fine with up speed limit set to 40 KB and down to 240 KB and mostly the down speed doesn't worry me even if my connection is capable of real download speed of 290 - 310 KB/s since my torrents typically don't generate enough down traffic as it is and stay much lower bellow that 240 KB caphowever few days ago I was downloading some torrents that seemed to have very healthy peers out there and already were bucking against my down speed limit, so I decided to open the pipe wide open and see what happens since I wasn't playing online game or browsing... what happened is speed went all the way up and stayed there but after some ten minutes the speed graph dived steeply down and from webpage of my router status, I could see that I lost internet connection and after some half a minute the router would connect again on its own, get new IP and uTorrent would again wake up and start making torrents active and in time it would all go again as before, bucking against my pipe limits untill all would repeat some five or ten mins laterall along I don't have to reboot router or modem, I can just sit and watch it and it rights itself on its own, so I don't think it is the same thing as people get problems with crappy routers/modems that need resetting every so oftenfor over a week now, I am testing new Dlink DGL-4300 gaming router and it works very nice with p2p provided I keep that cap on those up/down speed like 40 to 50 KB up and maybe 200 KB down, perhaps 240 KB, then it can run for days and never disconnect from my ISP (I can see that from its keeping same IP and also by connection time that router displays - every reconnections always gives me different IP on my DSL connection)I have Global max connetions set to 300Max # of connected peers per torrent 30# of upload slots per torrent 4Max # of active torrents 16today I did test with unlimited upload only since I currently have no torrents downloading, they are all seeding, and I uncapped upload and it went up to around 60KB with breaf shots to 70 KB which is just about what my ISP gives me and in ten minutes I got the connection dropped and router reconnected and in half to one minute all was back on track again uploading at 60KB steady and it would again loose connection.... and this is pure case of just uploading, seems like when I remove cap (either up or down or both) and torrents are healthy enough to utilize it that it leads to periodical disconnetion from ISP I am on DSL and my ISP has no caps and doesn't throttle p2p apps or anything, at least as far as the internet forum community here is agreed on vanDivX
Firon
It's probably just your ISP. There's many ISPs that disconnect you if you sustain certain transfer rates for too long, at their discretion.

You're uploading around 60 KB/sec...but at max count you might be trying to upload to over 60 different peers at once.

You're uploading around 60 KB/sec...but at max count you might be trying to upload to over 60 different peers at once.you might have something there, I'd be uploading to 64 peers if all get found... but I think on download side the numbers of peers I would connect to would be much bigger, then again how come I would reach critical numbers of peers just near the limits of my bandwidth on both up and downloadas to previous Firon's reply, my ISP is Sympatico in Canada and they don't have record of doing some shenigans with how customers use their network as I said, at least the wide community regards them that way and people stay with DSL in my area because of that, else they might go to Rogers cable as alternative where they get higher speeds, almost double, but they have caps on how much you can download plus they limit bandwidth for p2p apps (which you can now obviate with encryption I suppose)thing is that I have the same setting for how many peers I am connected to U or D and all I change is remove the cap on speed and that shouldn't change numbers of peers or something like that, I am inclined to put it on my ISP link quality or modem on their side I connect to (it is PPoE ADSL connection). Probably when I run at near or full maximum which my line can physically sustain, some fault develops and my modem at home looses synch with the ISP's modem and the connection gets broken. Then my router reestablishes it and I go on till it happens again some ten fifteen minutes laterI recall now though when I got this special Dlink router it was also disconnecting like this and I almost returned it then. With pretty timid down and upload caps, it would disconnect like this exactly after every 2.5 minutes of running uTorrent and reestablish that connection in next half a minute, then exactly the same thing would repeat again and again in 2.5 minutes intervals. It had old firmware 1.3 which I flashed to 1.6 latest one and it ran fine now for over a week. But it seems to return to doing what it used to under that old firmware except now it happens at longer intervals and only if I run without cap on either side and have healthy torrents to max it up on download (no problem maxing it on upload, people are always hungry LOL)so, I am inclined in light of this to put this disconnection on Dlink DGL-4300 router shoulders, that latest firmware made huge change but its not perfect. I suppose I can live with it, right now I am uploading at 50 KB/s for almost ten hours and its holding up, it only disconnects if I let it to 60 or 70 KB which practically means running without cap, similarly on download side where I have to test it more, it seems like 240 KB is still fine and uncapped speed can go to ~290 KB, I might see how far I can increase the cap but 240 is fine for me. btw, I used to download on http of ftp 4GB movies at 250 to 290 KB sustained speeds, pretty well at maximum of my connection and never had problem, it likely is the router and maybe some folks will find my findings usefull.vanDivX
