export torrent setting into txt file

export utorrent setting into txt file for times when you seek help on forums and you get asked about your settings, so instead of writing out those line ''Global maximum number of ..." etc, you just use some menu command to export all the usefull info into txt file which you can copy paste here on forum when asking for help with something

what to include would be determined by pros who know best what they would like to see when people ask for help here

some programs out there do have such feature, makes life so much easier on support forums

Not possible, as the text file would then have to store binary data (all the torrent data), which would then contradict the whole idea of exporting in a text file in the first place. At any rate, some sort of export feature has already been requested.

maybe you misunderstand me, I mean that thing about 'binary data', I talk about exporting just values people input into their preferences, so they don't have to laboriously look them up and write out their descriptions here if they are asked about them, it would be equivalent to if they were able to show you their Preference pannel here on forums (perhaps with some censure of private data, like port, probably the only sensitive item there) and perhaps some other client settings that are not part of preferences if such exist

often people themselves supply some of those values that they think might pertain to their problem when in fact they have wrongly set other values they don't even think about, also writing out

Maximum number of connected peers per torrent' is onerous to do, if you ask for it and don't word it precisely then people might not get what you want them to supply or what you talk about, all these lines are hard to keep in memory long enough to write them out for people who didn't take such stuff with their milk, that's what I mean

I run this hardware firewall Pointclark that has web ftp etc servers on it and when people ask for help on forums, they are expected to supply exported setup data right on first post so the experts can look and judge the overall setup regardless of what the one asking for help blabers, you get menu in Help menu which eports the basic settings into txt file making it convenient to just post it all or only part that you think is enough for the problem at hand if you feel yourself enough of expert :)

people who need help are mostly those that have little idea what technical points to supply so they can actually be helped and expert can just scan settings if supplied in some structured order and pinpoint where the trouble lies

when I searched for 'export' 'settings', I got just one thread from last year but that was about exporting settings when you want to transfer client btw PCs or something like that, I am after exporting some settings to facilitate providing of help on forums

> ammm, how about backup the settings.dat?

because the idea is to make a human-readable version for tech support purposes so you can see what someone's settings are at a glance

i'm not going to load someone else's settings.dat just to see what they're doing

ohhh i get what u mean now, in that case i dont think it should be really helpful, i mean for starters is not like there is a thousand options that can be changed not to know what a user has as settings.

Problem is speed settings? use the speed guide

Problem is i can't get good speed in utorrent? enable protocol encryption and open ports and try again.

What should i set for maximum connections? use the speed guide

Problem is whatever? it's easy to spot it as it is

I have a problem? use the damn FAQ for crying out loud :P

anyway, exporting to .txt wouldnt be helpful, but a copy settings to clipboard i think would be :)

LOL you have answer for everything, I throw my hands down or is it up

ok, clipboard at least, so you can paste in here and then delete what you don't need to show, its tedius to write those long descriptions and using acronyms like GMNoC=300 would put most folks off

Ok, this worked for me:

1) go to your original "C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent" and copy and overwrite all the files from that folder to your destination folder, say "E:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent"

2) Open your uTorrent on the new Windows and select all the files which will say "Missing..." in red, and right click them, select Advanced --> Set Download Location

3) Specify the physical folder where your downloaded files are

4) Right click on the files on uTorrent and select "Force Re-Check"

Now all the torrents should be on green on partially completed and they can continue downloading on your new machine.

I hope this works for you too! =)
