whenever i try downloading a file through utorrent version 1.8.4 on my mac, it never downloads. the website always says there are several seeds, and peers, and when i open the torrent file in utorrent, there is a file or list of files there i can select from, so i know those are not the problem.

here are some images of utorrent during a recent file download attempt, and the website i got it from

http://imgur.com/JP2uqsj entire window & general tab

i know the torrent is in the "inactive" section here, they always automatically go there, and i cant figure out how to get them into the "active" section. i cant click the start button, because its greyed out, but i can click stop and remove

<munched by admin - don't link content - DWK>

could it be something in the utorrent preferences that needs to be changed?

while i was writing this, the speed section did this http://imgur.com/TApcrUI and went back to nothing again

Trackers 'lie', the numbers are cached IDs from the tracker so may not even be online anymore.

The file list is in the metadata (the .torrent file) that you downloaded.

Which means it IS already running.
trackers tab
Which suggests you need to sort out your firewall and/or your Internet security software

And remove the ccc.de and piratebay trackers because they do not exist anymore.

EDIT:

And don't link to content.

Even though the torrent it running, it is still in the inactive section.

My firewall is set to allow incoming connections to utorrent, and I am using a vpn... Could that be an issue? I will also try deleting those trackers you mentioned.

I apologize for my lack of extensive knowledge about torrents and utorrent, as I am still relatively new to this.

undoubtedly yes

is there a setting within the vpn's preferences i need to change, or do i need to stop using it altogether? if i can't use it at all, how else can i prevent my real ip from being seen by the trackers?

I have heard of other people using vpns and downloading torrents without any problems, could it be the specific one i am using?

No idea, you will have to ask whomever the VPN provider is.

Don't download material that is copyright then it won't matter.
could it be the specific one i am using?
Possibly.

Could it be anything else?

There is any number of 'things' it could be

Any other suggestions for me to try?

ive noticed in the preferences window under the "network" tab, beside incoming TCP port, there is a yellow circle, and it says " no incoming connections", and then it switches to "unavailable" sometimes, with a grey circle could this indicate what may be wrong?

i tried a different torrent client which i ran on windows 8.1 using parallels on my mac, and it worked perfectly fine. i will most likely continue using it unless i encounter a problem with it.

thanks for your help ciaobaby
