person1290 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 whenever i try downloading a file through utorrent version 1.8.4 on my mac, it never downloads. the website always says there are several seeds, and peers, and when i open the torrent file in utorrent, there is a file or list of files there i can select from, so i know those are not the problem.here are some images of utorrent during a recent file download attempt, and the website i got it fromhttp://imgur.com/JP2uqsj entire window & general tabi know the torrent is in the "inactive" section here, they always automatically go there, and i cant figure out how to get them into the "active" section. i cant click the start button, because its greyed out, but i can click stop and removehttp://imgur.com/oNJnJz2 trackers tabhttp://imgur.com/zo0hOLR files tabhttp://imgur.com/KpeoAqs peers tabhttp://imgur.com/Zq9KEyl speed tab<munched by admin - don't link content - DWK>could it be something in the utorrent preferences that needs to be changed?while i was writing this, the speed section did this http://imgur.com/TApcrUI and went back to nothing again
ciaobaby Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 he website always says there are several seeds, and peers,Trackers 'lie', the numbers are cached IDs from the tracker so may not even be online anymore.there is a file or list of files there i can select from, so i know those are not the problem. The file list is in the metadata (the .torrent file) that you downloaded.i cant click the start button, because its greyed out,Which means it IS already running.trackers tabWhich suggests you need to sort out your firewall and/or your Internet security softwareAnd remove the ccc.de and piratebay trackers because they do not exist anymore.EDIT:And don't link to content.
person1290 Posted December 8, 2013 Author Report Posted December 8, 2013 which means it IS already runningEven though the torrent it running, it is still in the inactive section.Which suggests you need to sort out your firewall and/or your Internet security softwareAnd remove the ccc.de and piratebay trackers because they do not exist anymore. My firewall is set to allow incoming connections to utorrent, and I am using a vpn... Could that be an issue? I will also try deleting those trackers you mentioned. I apologize for my lack of extensive knowledge about torrents and utorrent, as I am still relatively new to this.
ciaobaby Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 Could that be an issue?Undoubtedly yes.
person1290 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Report Posted December 9, 2013 undoubtedly yesis there a setting within the vpn's preferences i need to change, or do i need to stop using it altogether? if i can't use it at all, how else can i prevent my real ip from being seen by the trackers?I have heard of other people using vpns and downloading torrents without any problems, could it be the specific one i am using?
ciaobaby Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 is there a setting within the vpn's preferences i need to change,No idea, you will have to ask whomever the VPN provider is.how else can i prevent my real ip from being seen by the trackers?Don't download material that is copyright then it won't matter.could it be the specific one i am using?Possibly.
person1290 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Report Posted December 9, 2013 What if its not the vpn? Could it be anything else? Any other suggestions for me to try?
ciaobaby Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 Could it be anything else? There is any number of 'things' it could be Any other suggestions for me to try?Read the pinned threads in the speed and the trouble shooting sections.
person1290 Posted December 11, 2013 Author Report Posted December 11, 2013 ive noticed in the preferences window under the "network" tab, beside incoming TCP port, there is a yellow circle, and it says " no incoming connections", and then it switches to "unavailable" sometimes, with a grey circle could this indicate what may be wrong?
ciaobaby Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 could this indicate what may be wrong?Yes.It says that your client is "firewalled" ie: Behind a device [or software] that is blocking or otherwise preventing communication.
person1290 Posted December 14, 2013 Author Report Posted December 14, 2013 i tried a different torrent client which i ran on windows 8.1 using parallels on my mac, and it worked perfectly fine. i will most likely continue using it unless i encounter a problem with it.thanks for your help ciaobaby
