port forward dilemma

Hi sorry in advance if this has been asked countless times.

I'm using utorrent 2.2.1 and my router is dlink - dsl-504T.

After running the test to check if my port was open. (I got a yellow tick saying i could download but peers could not connect with me as port was not open!).

I then followed the instructions for portforwarding

unticked both UPnP port mapping and NAT-PMP port mapping.

Ran the test still got yellow tick.

out of irritation/frustration enabled both ...applied and ran test getting a green tick.

I'm confused but as long as its working I don't care.

Unfortunately I've been playing this game for a long time.

Things are working fine and out of the blue I run across this problem - a private tracker sends me an email telling me I'm unconnectable and so I go through the same process I mentioned above..i.e

run the test ....get yellow arrow....change my port number (49000) and untick the port mapping boxes....

and portforward instructions are followed etc. etc.

I usually keep my port no. close to 49000.

I must be missing something or doing something wrong.
