mike20021969 and Beasly, thank you for your helpful tips/guides above and in the "Stop just Stop" thread.  Am trying the various settings/suggestions out--thus far, they've worked, although we'll have to see if uTorrent resets them.

 

And rafi, thanks for your links--but it would be most helpful, in the future, if you might just post info. rather than almost seeming to play a game of, "drag the info. out of me" (I'm sure that wasn't your intent--and uTorrent already is being frustrating enough) . . . .  Simply IMHO.   ;)

You're Welcome. Some here have more patience (and some are just patients of the state) than others being that some issues have been here forever. We for the most part aim to please!

People should use it before asking, and not be that lazy (in the future...)...

 

 

1 hour plus yesterday and 2 hours this morning, over uTorrent new pernicious ads.  You may be underestimating the confusion and perniciousness of this all (the recurring screen ads, etc.).   ;)

When did you last update these settings / Best Practice Tips?

 

Some seem outdated. For instance:

 

Tip N ("Those are one-time links, that will not show after you press them once, to visit the related web sites") needs ammending.

 

As you know, in more recent versions of uTorrent, those Twitter and Facebooks icon are a permanent feature and WILL remain even after you press them.

 

Tip Q was fixed a long time ago.

Yes, some tips needs updating, and for 3.4.x it will probably be when they have a final stable (first 3.4.3...) . Updated the N tip per your comments...  I cannot keep up with the offers-changes for each beta, even if it is being called stable... Thanks for the feedback

I would really love it if you guys would focus on fixing the broken things first. Namely the RSS feeds. They have been broken for the last 5 updates and have yet to hear why they haven't been

If the changelog states "bug fixes"  without and in depth explanation then the fixes could be for the revenue aspects of the client.

That's what their priorities are for the most part for a while now. They have put the level 1 and level 2 bugs on hold and may have lost their way.

I agree with you beasly.but they should keep the things different which they can get the revenue.if you really want a revenue then go and develop the other product instead of ruining the existing software which users have been using for many years.

I never understand.if they really had to develop a bundles feature.whey they removed the pause and in place of pause button they have added lock sign button to unlock the bundle.they could have placed the unlock thing in context only not on both places context and button.2nd thing they have added a related tab,updates and recommded tab.what is use of these tabs for normal users.3rd thing they are forcing to users upgrade to utorrent plus.thats why they have added a option in sidebar.most of the users would not even know about hidden settings.i did not know about that unless i see in forum.now a days bugfixes is a joke for us.

I am really missing older cycle of releasing builds instead of this bullshit current system.Seems like they hire new bad coders.the existing people try to make them learn how to code.thats why bugs are getting increased

please stop screwing uT... every new version is an unpleasant surprise

Because this is a new "feature" - update controls  are disabled in all Betas. Use a Stable build ...

Each time you guys do an upgrade, you shove it down our throats, give us no easy way of understanding how to make it work, remove all of the torrents we have loaded and basically just use a sledge hammer to get it to work again.

 

so starting with a blank slate again, i added one torrent and it just says it is Looking for Peers...has been doing this for several hours with no up or down stream activity.

 

I close the client, then reopen it, and it tells me there is older version of the client running...which i wouldn't think would be the case since the window that opens is definitely the new 3.4 version.

 

how do i get this client to work again?

 

And is there any way to reload the torrents that were already in the system prior to 'upgrade'?

The good ol' I lost my resume.dat after I did an upgrade problem.. haven't seen this one in awhile..

Open up Windows Explore and type %appdata% in the address bar and press enter, then locate the uTorrent directory and double click on that.

The resume.dat file keeps track of all your downloading torrents. Find resume.dat and rename it resume.bad, keep it around just in case.. Hopefully you can see a resume.old, rename that to resume.dat

Enter the updates folder and delete everything in there.

Hopefully that'll fix it.

...and Remote Access is still broken in v3.4.2.34309. 

 

The last build that works for me without major issues is v3.4.2.32691. After that one, all the different problems seem to have increased. 

Good thing you remember the historical facts... :)  As for the current facts, not "all" problems have "increased" in this build, some were also fixed...  True, most of the fixed issues are regressions tho...

 

BTW, as for the 'last build that "works"', my bet would be one of the latest 3.4.1 builds/stable, and that most of the regressions in 3.4.2 are due to this:

 

-- 2014-05-14: Version 3.4.1 Beta (build 31274)

- This is the first good build with a huge behind-the-scenes change to how we update the Torrent UI elements from the network thread. The client should be much smoother to interact with when many torrents are loaded and active.

The only solution is to downgrade prior to 3.3.2 which is when it started, though moderated in 3.3.2-30586.  Or avoid Force Re-Checking which incites berserk log error output.  In the end it's just another (minor) bug. http://forum.utorrent.com/topic/88339-34x-beta/page-2#entry479616

 

So, fix your bug in line 66 ...

And so, finally was freed from pernicious, screen-destroying uTorrent ads for just under 2 weeks, after reading further about and making further uTorrent Advanced and hidden Advanced tweaks.  And then . . . .

 

Today, I get a BitTorrent Bundle ad whenever I maximize uTorrent on my screen, taking over my entire uTorrent window.  If I X out of it, it comes back the next time I open uTorrent or maximize it.  And again.  And again.  And again.  I had made no changes to my uTorrent setup.

 

OK, once is acceptable, as a compromise.  But to never go away?  Is there any way to turn this off, or is the only way, to abandon uTorrent entirely?  As a presumable attempt at a revenue-generating scheme, this perniciousness is as bad as it gets, and is self-defeatist--irritating and totally turning off consumers is far from a key to success.  Really, it is as bad and irritating as obnoxious Internet spam websites.

 

Please help?  (And, yes, I did do multiple searches on this issue before posting.)
