Peer preference by geographic distance / user configuration

First, hats off to you for making such a useful tool. It's always nice to use software that feels robust and efficient.

Anyways, the title says it all. I'm in Israel, for example, and would receive much better speeds had uTorrent prefered peers in my own country (or the UK / US which Israel has a relatively fast connection to... this is where user configuration comes to play). It sounds isoteric but just thought I'd post it here.

This isn't as useful as you think it is, since it automatically tries to get a good speed until it hits either your global maximum speed in the options, your torrent max speed specified in the torrent, the maximum number of peers specified in the options, or your physical maximum speed. Frankly, I don't see a need for this feature. I have a university connection that I've tested to have horrible routing to home ISP's, but I still manage to get good speeds.

I agree with silverfire. The BT protocol keeps randomly testing its connected peers to see which ones will give you the best download rates. That takes into account all factors, not just geographic proximity or routing delays. Sometimes a client right next door will give you nada because the person at the keyboard limited the upload bandwidth :( In that case, you are better off with a client deep in Central Asia where the packets are carried by yak.

In any case, the BT protocol will do a good job of picking the best peers for you to work with. That's what's so nice about this protocol.
