firewall, ICMP and netbios

I am using internal IP for my PC, 192.168.1.100 and having a router in front of the pc. I forward the port for utorrent to use (6885). however, mu pc firewall blocks a lot of ICMP and netbios-ns UDP when I run utorrent.

should I turn those on? and why I need to have netbios-ns on for BT?

thanks

"and why I need to have netbios-ns on for BT?"

who says you have to?!

The FAQ is telling someting different about that stuff.

And netbios is deffinitly in NO Case ever necessary for BTtraffic afaik about the specs.

Edit:

sorry the faq does not tell stuff about internet control message protocoll, only that UDP is used for The DHT.

My fault!

But nonetheless netbios is not required and should not be allowed.

I have changed my BT to differnt ports now and forward that port in the router.

1. Here is the firewall block log. do you know if this is outgoing or incoming? I try "cmd" and "ping" I can ping without any problems and I didn't see it blocked by the firewall. so is it differetn ICMP other than "ping"?

2. in the log, i also see different type of ICMP. eg, type 11, code 0

3. I got a lot of netbios-ns. I guess I should continue stop it? how can they reach me? I didn't do port forwarding they should be block it by the router already, isn't it?

4. should I turn all ICMP on or just Type:3 Code:3?

why don't you just READ what Firon and i have posted instead of just watching fancy logs about stuff that you not really understand and asking than questions again we already answered(NO offence!)? We do not need the picture to know what icmp and netbios is and that this "background noise" totally normal for an internet connected PC is.

You could for example look up in my wikipedialink what these icmp messages you mentioned mean. both are explained!!

and before repeating your question about netbios in your picture post again read whats answered about that.

thanks for your answers.

I am sorry if I make you feel I re-post again but what I tried to understand are different things not the term definetions. The purpose of posting image just try make clear what kind of ICMP CODE I should open for BT because it is not just one CODE and TYPE.

I understand ICMP, netbios and so on. I have read wiki, FAQ, and search in this formus but I cannot find what CODE and TYPE I need to open for BT to use. I only see "you should allow "Destination Unreachable" to aid the proper functioning of DHT" but I am not sure if this mean all ICMP traffic.

My other question is that does utorrent do anything so people try to reach me through betbios or I try to reach them? I have router in front which should block all betbios. In the other words, it may sound like I try to nbtstat them or something but why utorrent does it?

No, you do not understand!!

firon used clear words : Destination Unreachable

This is ONE clear ICMP message. so whats then about this hole thing to be "not sure if this mean all ICMP traffic."

If he would wanted to say ALL then he would have said THAT. (he can express himself better in english then i can)

If someone would say to you go get a shower then you would'nt say "im not shure if this mean stick my head in the toilet" would you?!

first, I like to thank you for your reply but I don't want to argue about "language" thing here. this is just wasting each others time.

I only try to understand what utorrent is doing not the terms. if you are CCNP or CCIE then we can talk about network, structure, packet, ACK, header, 7 layers, detail about ICMP.... otherwise, it is just wasting time again.

sorry, I won't reply again if anything in unrelated to the topic. this doens't help me and doesn't help other future readers either. if you try to argue about you are right on those unrealsted issue; then, congratulations, you win and I am out.

If you know that much about networking, then you should know yourself which ICMP is which, or at least find a table describing each type (3 in case you still can't find out, the only one used by µTorrent).

And you should also know that allowing all ICMPs doesn't really harm you. Blocking them sure doesn't make you hidden.

sir..initially my utorrent download was fast and got about 14% of the file i wanted in D1. However the next time i rebooted the computer, the speed of download bcame drastically slow and zilch short while later.

on mylogger section, it reads ERROR OPENING WINDOW FIREWALL : 0 into 800706D9 and UNABLE TO MAP UPnP PORT TO 192.168.0.100:3259

HELP!
