Beeble Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Is XP no longer supported? When I double click the installer, I get an instant crash. It's a PIII machine... does uTorrent now require SSE2 or above?Microsoft (R) DrWtsn32Copyright (C) 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. All rights reserved. Beeble Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Found 3.3.2 on <DO NOT LINK OLD VERSIONS> This installed with no issues.
Beeble Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Don't link old versions? I can't even install 3.4, it crashes instantly. 3.3.2 was my only option. There is another thread here where a XP user doesn't even get a crash dialog, it just exits out when they try to run it. So, you don't want users to use old versions? I would have no way to run uTorrent at all then, if it was up to you? That is very mean and not user friendly at all.
rafi Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Sounds bad... Did you try testing with selecting one of the compatibility modes in the exe properties?
Beeble Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 I suspect that SSE2 CPU (minimum P4) is required starting with version 3.4. If that is the case, the requirements need to be updated, and the installer should inform the user that their CPU is unsupported instead of just crashing.
rafi Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 The new 3.4.1 beta build 30657 should resolve the issue... Can anyone report the result with it?
bugmenot2 Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 The new 3.4.1 beta build 30657 should resolve the issue... Can anyone report the result with it? Does not seem so. I tried the latest beta from your link and it crashes with the same error code. Seems that CPUs without the SSEx instruction set are no longer supported. That's quite OK (at least Intel likes it, and QT5 does just the same) but it indeed would be nice to test the CPU capabilities in the installer and print out a message if the CPU is not supported. That would avoid a lot of searching for the cause of those crashes. Kind regards.
