Error: Cant' Find .torrent file

This is a situation that I've experienced through many versions of uTorrent, but never have seen or heard of a way to get around it.

 

I have all of my files on an external drive and it works just fine.  If I accidently start uTorrent without the drive connected, all of my torrent files say:  "Error:  Can't Find .torrent file..."

 

I GET THAT...THAT IS FINE!!!!!!!!!!!

 

However if I close down uTorrent and reconnect the drive, uTorrent will not automatically reconnect to the torrent files, I have to do it manually.

 

EVEN IF THE DRIVE MAPPING IS THE SAME.

 

I click on, "Force Re-Check" for each torrent and the files will repopulate again.

 

ISSUES:

1.  Is there a way around this?

2.  Often times some of the completed files will not be completed upon reconnect and will download again.

3.  Some files that I never wanted to download, within a package, will now be sent to normal download after re-check and begin to download.
