Jonnybrx
I suggest there be 2 versions of utorrent. Lite and Full. It makes perfect sense. The lite version would be similar to the current version and would allow users to simply use the torrent client easily and effortlessly without configuration or previous knowledge about bittorrent. This is key for people new to bittorrent aka newbs, and to people who dont want an advanced client like azureus but a simple run and go client. The Full client would stay on course with the development currently going on, and would include a bunch more features such as the ones available in Azureus. It would basicly be Azureus but easier on the hardware and without the horrible java protocol that always freezes my XP.What do you think?
LSphinx
without the horrible java protocol that always freezes my XP.word!if not for the java, azureus would be a piece of cake...
schwab
well go back and download 1.1.4 or don't update when 1.1.7 comes out, and you'll be all set
Jonnybrx
I love utorrent so far. I love Azureuz more than any other client, but I hate its cpu sucking, evil freezingness that is caused by the java protocol it uses. I can't even use it anymore becuase it completely freezes my PC. Besides, its annoying to keep updating java runtime environment.

I wouldn't be using the lite version I suggested. Other people that would want it like newbs or people that dont want anymore complexity would use it. See: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?t=1083I suggested this to satisfy people that dont want a lot of features so that they wouldn't suppress the development of a truley superb client. QauNuckShin
But the whole idea and goal of developing this torrent client is making a "lite" torrent client. There are already other sufficient clients. The choice between full and lite is the choice between mostly any other client and µTorrent.

The u (well µ) in uTorrent stands for micro as in 10^-6 as in really tiny. Having a 'full' version seems a bit superfluous seeing that uTorrent is meant to be the lite version always. chaosblade
I totally agree here. There is no reason to make a 'full' version when the whole purpose is to have a client that is feature-rich (with features that people actually NEED) yet light and easy to use. Jeez, I kinda took that personally. My java and windows runs perfectly but no matter how much I try to fix Azureus after a while it just freezes the whole PC. If you go to Azureus.sf.net at the top they have my problem. 100% CPU usage. But I still can't fix it no matter what they say.

Ultima
@Johnnybrx: Maybe you should read Alex H's interview with ludde/vurlix... You'd realize... well forget it, I'll just quote:interview"]Ludde: I'm somewhat obsessed by making tiny and resource friendly programs, and when Serge brought up the idea I thought sounded really interesting. I didn't plan to make a full featured client at that point, I just wanted to learn about the protocol and it seemed like a fun and challenging task to make a resource friendly BitTorrent client.Chances are, the devs aren't interested in creating a large, overly-bloated application. Jonnybrx
true, but with the popularity that this thing has created, it seems that it could be very resourse friendly and also the best client out there.

Anime Janai
There is a smaller client by someone else. If you really want "LITE" then try the Arctic client. The arctic source code is also available, so you can customize the client to have the features you want. So those people who had posted in other threads that they wanted a client that would stop the torrent as soon as it was finished downloading can now do that. Or even make a look-alike user interface to whatever client they happen to like that is also small and has a tiny footprint.Arctic bittorrent client (source available at site)http://www.int64.org/arctic.html

bleh
I swear, if I see another thread where some newbie goes "I NEEDS MAH FEEt-juurs!" in some way, I'm going to hurl I'm a regular at some other forums which are alot more violent than these forums, andfor all intents and purposes, they've got a "shotdown suggestions thread" which preventspeople from posting the same idea twice. (since all threads which are similar get locked!)perhaps the µtorrent forums need to implement this aswell.
splintax
Arctic bittorrent client (source available at site)http://www.int64.org/arctic.htmlThankyou for linking that. If you're not happy with µT, switch to Arctic. It's definitely 'liter' than µT, even if the executable is better.well go back and download 1.1.4 or don't update when 1.1.7 comes out, and you'll be all setThat is also an excellent idea.I'm not for a 'lite' version as long as the completed install of µT including custom icons is well below 1MB, CPU usage typically below 1%, and RAM less than 10MB. Even if it did go over that, I'd still probably stick with µT. Dude! I bet I know how to operate my PC much better than you. Dont make stupid asumptions like that.Heh, as far as that goes, anyone else realise the contradiction here? :|
