NewTorrentBUDDY
Hi dear pals how are u doing .. ? i have a problem with the resume funcionality of uTorrent .. well let me explain it . i am a dialup user and i am downloading some fiels so it takes a lot of time to do that and i am living in pakistan and there is always a lurking danger of electricity shutdown from the notorious department WAPDA and an abrupt shutdown and a omg a loss of data .... so keeping this fear in mind whenever i am downloading a file in utorrent i stop it after some part of it is downloaded say e.g i stop download when 30 ,50 or or ( some reasonable ) MegaByte of data is downloaded and i close utorrent .. after closing utorrent i go to the directory where the file is being saved if for example it is an ISO file i copy it and paste it somewhere else on my harddrive... so this way i can minimize the loss of data.... this is a very very good trick as well and it has come very hand quite a few times once i downlaoded some 600 mb out of 890 mb data and suddnly electircity went after comeing back i found that file is not there in the directory where utorrent was placeing it so it was giving me error i found it in windows FOUND.000 foler but its size was about the same and i remamed it to the format utorrent was expecting it and the file was .. but sitll it wont work so i deleted that and quickly replaced the copy that i had earlier made and it worked and started downloading form 500 mb ( as i have made the copy of that file at "round about" this size)... any how i did'nt noticed the whole thing carefully and after carefully noting i found that utorrent was starting downloading the file not exactly from the place where i stoped utorrent (............ made a copy put it some where in case such need arises and i use it and would again start downlaoding form the orignal file and utorrent would start downloaidng againn and i would keep this cycle untill i got the whole file......) rather i would start downloading at least 5 to 15 MB Less that the expected size.. it noted it at least thrice once i made a copy at 396 mb and reusing that copy i found it was downloading from 393 mb .. made a copy at 537mb again after dissconnection of electricity (hopefully corrupting the orignial file which utorrent was downloading to) restarted form that saved file and again i noted it started downloading form 525 mb ? what is this problem please help me as i am on dialup and its speed really sucks not going above 4 kb at Downloaidng +uplaidg and i am paying 30 $ for it (one month unlimited). so even 5 mb matters extremely ... hope u would direct me in the right direction...thanks in advance. µtorrent-Guest
the problem might be that unfinished pieces (see pieces tab) get discarded when you resume the DL. Problem is that for the single chunks of unfinished pieces there is no hashvalue so this data gets discarded when restarting. If you have 20 unfinished pieces DLing a 4mb each thats very much data. Maybe an UPS is your next hardware piece of choice thenhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

NewTorrentBUDDY
thanks for the prompt answer well let me simplify the problem1. I have utorrent standalone file on my desktop.2. all the data that i download goes to E:\mydocuments3. I started download a 720 + MB of file it was an iso4. it happed to reach 537 mb5. right clicked that file in utorrent clicked > stop. 6. waited for few minutes ( 2 or 3 )7. closed utorrent8. went to E:mydocumetns and copied the iso file to d:\9. started utorrent from desktop and right clicked the file10. it started downloading from 537 mb onward.11. it downloaded 540 mb12.WAPDA (water and power developement "AUTHORITY") Cursed me by dissconnecting electricity.13.electricity came back14. started computer and torrent .. gve me error .. file missing or sth like htis15. went to e:mydocuments to see if file is there... it wasnt there16. copied from d:\ to e:\mydocuments\17. again restarted utorrent.18 . force rechecked it showed 525 mb of data under the complted tab which was 537 at the time i created its copy..even it was 537 mb after starting the download.hope this would clarify.. What stratage should i follow in order to avoid such losses or minimize it (i am alreading following a strategy but it is not only minimizing the loss but the download as well .................................) apart form buying UPS. what are other precautions that i should follow... i read teh faq searched the site but could not get anwer to my problem ... anyhow i am trying to scan the whole 83 pages of the forum sequentially ....................)? Firon
Buy a UPS. Incomplete pieces are not kept across sessions.
